The National Guard in America began in the Revolutionary War. The Texas units resulted from the earlier concept and emerged in 1835 to resist Mexican oppression. Following achievement of statehood, Texas militiamen served in the Mexican War, the Civil War, and the Spanish-American War. As the twentieth century began, Texans had a long history of service in reserve military organizations in spite of a prevailing attitude of contempt for citizen soldiers held by influential regular army officials.

The goal of this paper is to establish necessary and sufficient conditions for a subgroup of the full homeomorphism group of a manifold to be the stability group of a point in the underlying space. Such subgroups are useful in identifying the underlying space in terms of its homeomorphism group even in cases in which this space is not necessarily a manifold. Thus, stability groups are useful in classifying various spaces.
The composer has earnestly sought to capture in this work, Allegra for Orchestra in C minor, the clarity and simplicity that is commonly associated with works of the Classic Period of musical composition. He has tried to accomplish this by making use of musical composition. He has tried to accomplish this by making use of present day approaches toward musical composition, yet trying to delete the cleverness, the bizarre effects, and the trite pomposity that one finds so prevalent in much of the music that has been written since the beginning of the twentieth century. This effort toward simplicity extends to form, harmonic content, texture, and instrumentation.
With a large number of carbon-carbon spin-spin coupling constants now determined and the dihedral angle dependence of vicinal coupling constants reported, application of this coupling constants data was attempted to a conformational study.
Alto Requiem is a requiem mass for contralto, chorus, and organ. Several unifying elements have been used throughout the composition. Most of the homophonic texture is limited to quartal and secundal structures. The melodic material is also predominantly quartal and secundal. Key relationships between and within movements are limited to related major and minor modes, modes a major or minor second apart, and modes a fourth apart. Further unity is achieved by emplying motives from the chants of the Roman Missa pro defunctis. These chants are used in the vocal lines as well as in the organ accompaniment.

This study involved a geographic information systems (GIS) approach to modeling ground water pollution potential in the Southern Edwards Aquifer Region in Texas. The DRASTIC ground water model was analyzed using two methods. First, the effects of adding land cover data to the drastic model were evaluated. In the second approach, the effects of the removal of DRASTIC variables were evaluated. Six, five, and four variable models were generated and analyzed.
The primary problems of the study are to collect data on conflicts with respect to two hospitals. and to analyze such data in order to determine the seriousness of present intra- and intersubgroup conflicts and the subject matters and underlying causes of the more serious present subgroup conflicts. A comparative analysis of the respective subgroups in each hospital and a comparative analysis of the two hospitals in conflicts are also part of the study.

The pitch organization utilizes prominent intervals, improvised passages on certain passages on certain pitches, and the double harmonic mode, which is derived from an Indian raga. Various instrumental techniques are also used throughout the work to alter timbres as well as to create more interesting vertical sonorities.
This study is about the development of a curriculum guide which projects flexibility, continuity, sequential framework, and to a certain extent, uniformity, around which each teacher may build an art program that will best meet the students' needs. Areas pertinent to developing the curriculum guide are presented in light of literature in this field. The guide may be used to facilitate the teaching of art in recognizing and understanding artistic development that is essential in bringing to fruition the inherent individual ability of all the Junior High Catholic School students.
In the middle of his career, Arthur Garfield Dove created a smell yet novel body of landscape assemblages. They illustrate Dove's central interest in evoking nature--its motifs and rhythms--through imaginative associations of organic and man-made materials. These works represent Dove's synthesis of contemporary European stylistic and intellectual ideas as well as American philosophies and concerns. They also reflect the influence of Alfred Stieglitz and his circle and the artist Helen Torr, Dove's second wife. This study examines how Dove used a complex interplay of European theory and technique, American ideas and his own nature-based abstract style to create the landscape assemblages, works that are uniquely independent in the history of American art.
The problem under consideration was an assessment of the effect of teaching physical education, through a health concepts approach, to first-semester male and female college freshmen in a metropolitan junior college.
