Developmental thyroid disruption causes long-term impacts on immune cell function and transcriptional responses to pathogen in a small fish model

Description: This article explores the connection between thyroid hormones (THs) and immune systems in fish. This article is noteworthy as disruption of the thyroid system during development, which can occur in response to chemicals present in the environment, may have lasting effects on immune function in adulthood for fish.

Diffusion Entropy vs. Multiscale and Rényi Entropy to Detect Progression of Autonomic Neuropathy

Description: This article reviews the literature to argue the importance of the occurrence of crucial events in the dynamics of physiological processes. Crucial events are interpreted as short time intervals of turbulence, and the time distance between two consecutive crucial events is a waiting time distribution density with an inverse power law (IPL) index µ, with µ < 3 generating non-stationary behavior.

Dual activity of anthocyanidin reductase supports the dominant plant proanthocyanidin extension unit pathway

Description: This article presents research on genetic and biochemical analyses that shows ANR has dual activity and is involved not only in the production of (−)-epicatechin starter units but also in the formation of 2,3-cis-leucocyanidin to serve as (−)-epicatechin extension units. The results find that differences in the product specificities of ANRs account for the presence/absence of PA polymerization and the compositions of PAs across plant species

Effect of Laser Shock Peening Parameters on Residual Stresses and Corrosion Fatigue of AA5083

Description: Article examining Aluminium alloy 5083 subjected to Laser Shock Peening both with (LSP) and without protective coating (LPwC) at multiple pulse densities. A second LPwC treatment was conducted fully submersed under water, in addition to the standard laminar water flow condition. Results show that compressive residual stresses were generated in all cases, although their character varied depending on the peening strategy and method of confinement.

Effect of N-Methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP) on the Equilibrium Solubility of Meloxicam in Aqueous Media: Correlation, Dissolution Thermodynamics, and Preferential Solvation

Description: Article describes a study of the drug Meloxicam in N-methyl-pyrrolidone (NMP)–aqueous mixtures at several temperatures to expand the solubility database about pharmaceutical compounds in aqueous–mixed solvents. Meloxicam is preferentially hydrated in water-rich mixtures but preferentially solvated by NMP in the composition interval of 0.16 < x1 < 1.00.

Excrescent vowels in Lamkang prefix sequences

Description: Article examines the nature of the super-short vowel-like segments between the C- prefixes of the Lamkang language by combining acoustic analysis with speakers' intuitions about syllable structure. The authors argue that an accurate phonetic description of Lamkang vowels must include these super-short vowels, as well as long and short vowels, which are phonemically distinct.
