This is an abstract for a presentation that was given at the American Musicological Society Southwest Chapter's Spring Conference on April 11th, 2015. The presentation was given alongside a poster display. This abstract highlights Serge Jaroff's Don Cossack Choir, which was founded at a Turkish concentration camp in 1921, and went on to perform around the world. This abstract gives details on the history of the choir and the type of concerts that Jaroff gave. In addition, it explains the lack of scholarly attention that Jaroff and his choir have received.
The accessory role of the diaphragmaticus muscle in lung ventilation in the estuarine crocodile Crocodylus porosus
This article explores lung ventilation in crocodilians through direct measurements of ventilation, metabolic rate, and arterial blood gases of juvenile estuarine crocodiles in varying conditions. The results suggest that, in C. porosus, costal ventilation alone is able to support metabolic demands at rest, and the diaphragmaticus is largely an accessory muscle used at times of elevated metabolic demand.

Cluster embedding of ionic systems: Point charges and extended ions
This article presents a detailed analysis of the orbital energies of a representative cluster model of a high spin metal oxide, FeO, that has been made to determine the importance of different embedding schemes to represent the extended oxide crystal. The embedding of cluster models of oxides with point charges and with extensions of the embedding which take into account the spatial extent of the cations is examined with an emphasis on the consequences of this embedding for the relative ionization and excitation energies that are measured in core-level spectroscopies.
