Cross-Language Comparison of Mismatched Annotation in Interlinear-Glossed Texts

Description: This presentation explores the variation in interlinear-glossed text (IGT) in 5 closely related South-Central Tibeto-Burman languages with verb stem alternation, reduplicated adverbial modifiers, and pre-verbal directionals. Descriptive richness of free-text metadata: a comparative analysis of three language archives

Description: This article analyzes item‐level metadata in three language archives by focusing on free‐text metadata: the Endangered Language Archive, Pacific Regional Archive for Digital Sources in Endangered Cultures, and the Archive of the Indigenous Languages of Latin America. Excrescent vowels in Lamkang prefix sequences

Description: Article examines the nature of the super-short vowel-like segments between the C- prefixes of the Lamkang language by combining acoustic analysis with speakers' intuitions about syllable structure. The authors argue that an accurate phonetic description of Lamkang vowels must include these super-short vowels, as well as long and short vowels, which are phonemically distinct.

Using existing metadata standards and tools for a digital language archive: a balancing act

Organization of knowledge and information in digital archives of language materials

Description: This article reports the first empirical investigation of various dimensions of organization and representation of recorded knowledge and information in language archives. The study used a combination of semi-structured interviews and content analysis. Results demonstrate that, while some of the phenomena related to organization of information in language archives are specific to these types of archives, others are more typical and have been addressed by libraries in past research and practice.

Resource and Resource Sharing in Intelligent Information Access

Description: This presentation discusses an exploratory study on resources and resource sharing among researchers in Intelligent Information Access (IIA). The investigation consists of two stages. In Stage One, the authors conducted a content analysis to identify resources used in 145 research papers and reports in two subfields of IIA; and in Stage Two, the authors carried out an online survey of IIA researchers to understand resource-sharing channels and the researchers' perspectives on resource sharing.
