Dual-Wavelength Terahertz Metasurfaces with Independent Phase and Amplitude Control at Each Wavelength

Description: This article describes the design of a dual-wavelength achromatic metasurface-based deflector deflecting the incident wave to the same direction at two selected wavelengths, which has circumvented the critical limitation of strong wavelength dependence in the planar metasurface-based devices caused by the resonant nature of the plasmonic structures.

Dynamic Shear Deformation of a Precipitation Hardened Al0.7CoCrFeNi Eutectic High-Entropy Alloy Using Hat-Shaped Specimen Geometry

Description: The article reports on the shear deformation of a eutectic structured HEA and effect of precipitation on shear deformation, particularly Al₀.₇CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA). A split-Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) was used to compress the hat-shaped specimens to study the local dynamic shear response of the alloy. The change in the width of shear bands with respect to precipitation and deformation rates was studied. The precipitation of L1₂ phase did not delay the formation of adiabatic shear… more

Editorial: Superlubricity across the scales

Description: Article talks about how while the idea of frictionless surfaces and the associated implications of vanishing energy losses during mechanical motion have been part of science fiction culture, scientists in the real world work toward realizing this ambitious goal that was once thought to be unattainable. The overarching goal of the research topic titled “Superlubricity Across the Scales” is to provide a snapshot of the latest developments in this rapidly accelerating field of research.

Effect of amorphous cellulose on the deformation behavior of cellulose composites: molecular dynamics simulation

Description: This article is a study aimed at predicting and enhancing the properties of the blend, as well as exploring the mechanism, of a polylactic acid (PLA)/amorphous cellulose composite system through molecular characterization. The static properties of the amorphous cellulose/PLA blend model and the mechanical response of the material under uniaxial tension were studied by molecular dynamics simulation to establish the structure–property relationship.

Effect of composition and thermal history on deformation behavior and cluster connections in model bulk metallic glasses

Description: Article describes the compositional dependence and influence of relaxation state on the deformation behavior of a Pt–Pd-based bulk metallic glasses model system was investigated, where platinum is systematically replaced by topologically equivalent palladium atoms. Based on total scattering experiments with synchrotron X-ray radiation, a correlation between the increase in stiffer 3-atom cluster connections and reduction in strain-rate sensitivity, as a measure of ductility, with Pd content and… more

Effect of Elevated Temperatures on Properties of Blended Cements with Clinoptilolite

Description: Article investigates the effect of elevated temperature on properties of clinoptilolite blended cements. Clinoptilolite was used at 5 %, 10 %, 15 % and 20 % replacement by weight for Portland cement while sand and water quantities were kept constant in all mix designs. The mortars with 5 % or 10 % cliniptilolite substitution have compressive strength exceeding 42.5 MPa after being subjected to 400 °C and 500 °C.

Effect of Laser Shock Peening Parameters on Residual Stresses and Corrosion Fatigue of AA5083

Description: Article examining Aluminium alloy 5083 subjected to Laser Shock Peening both with (LSP) and without protective coating (LPwC) at multiple pulse densities. A second LPwC treatment was conducted fully submersed under water, in addition to the standard laminar water flow condition. Results show that compressive residual stresses were generated in all cases, although their character varied depending on the peening strategy and method of confinement.
