Stereochemical Studies of Nitrosamines: The Induced Circular Dichroism of Achiral Nitrosasmines

Description: The induced circular dichroism (ICD) of several chiral nitrosamines and various chiral reagents has been investigated. The interaction is attributed to a 1:1 hydrogen bonded complex between the NO group of the nitrosamine and the hydroxyl groups of alcohols and polyols, or the amino group of amines. Only those chiral reagents possessing large differences in size of the groups about the hydrogen bonding site contributed to CD anomalies. The acyclic 2-octanols did not give observable Cotton effec… more

Effect of Fluorine and Hydrogen Radical Species on Modified Oxidized Ni(pt)si

Description: NiSi is an attractive material in the production of CMOS devices. The problem with the utilization of NiSi, is that there is no proper method of cleaning the oxide on the surface. Sputtering is the most common method used for the cleaning, but it has its own complications. Dry cleaning methods include the reactions with radicals and these processes are not well understood and are the focus of the project. Dissociated NF3 and NH3 were used as an alternative and XPS is the technique to analyze th… more

Substituent Effects on Diazeniumdiolate Anions: an AB Initio and DFT Study

Description: Nitroglycerin and isoamyl nitrate have been used as nitrovasodilators since the nineteeth century. However, not until recently has it been known that these compounds were useful since they promoted the release of NO in the body. More recently, a new class of drugs, NO donors, has been developed. These include S-nitrosothiols (RSNO), sydnonimines, and nucleophilic NO adducts.
