Effects of Trichinella Soluble Antigens on Macrophage Subpopulations

Description: The immunomodulatory effects of Trichinella spiralis or Trichinella pseudospiralis soluble antigen extracts were examined in an effort to characterize the differences in immune responses seen during these Trichinella infections. The newborn larvae extracts of either parasite exhibited similar potency for stimulating macrophage PGE production; however, the muscle larvae extracts of T. pseudospiralis stimulated greater levels of PGE than did the muscle larvae extracts of T. spiralis. New Descriptions, Intraspecific Variation and Systematic Importance of Drumming Behavior in Selected North American Plecoptera

Description: Drumming behavior is described for the first time in 33 North American Plecoptera species, and signals of an additional five species, Pteronarcys pictetii, Acroneuria abnormis, Paragnetina media, Clioperla clio and Isogenoides zionensis, are further detailed. Description: A population of the red-eared slider, Pseudemys scripta, in north central Texas was studied from 1975 to 1980. A life history energy budget was developed for a typical individual in the population and the population dynamics were estimated. Some Responses of Bacillus subtilis Spores to Glutaraldehyde

Description: Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 19659) were damaged by exposure to various concentrations of glutaraldehyde, as shown by decreased germination rates. The damage caused was repaired or otherwise obviated by the presence of sodium lactate in the holding medium. The Stoneflies (Plecoptera) of the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains

Description: Collections of stoneflies (Plecoptera) were made at 603 stream sites from Nov. 1983 - May 1988 in the Ozark-Ouachita Mountain region, in relation to physiographic and vegetational characteristics. Multivariate Analyses of Amphibian and Reptilian Distribution in Texas

Description: Presence-absence data for amphibians, chelonians, saurians, ophidians, and the terrestrial and aquatic ecological guilds of reptilians were analyzed using multivariate analyses. Geographically consistant distributional patterns were found for all faunal groupings. Physiological Responses of Myriophyllum spicatum to Time Varying Exposures of Diquat, 2,4-D and Copper

Description: The physiological responses of Myriophyllum spicatum to 2,4-D, diquat and copper were quantified using a plant tissue viability assay, and daily measures of dissolved oxygen and pH. Effect of 2,450 MHz Microwave Radiation on Microorganisms

Description: The effect of microwave radiation on soil bacteria in situ has been studied in both lab and field conditions. Radiation and thermal profiles show that heterotrophic bacteria, spores, fungi, and actinomycetes were not affected by total microwave radiations over the range 0 to 80 seconds of exposure at a net input of 1 KW of intensity.
