Full-length, natural waist A-line skirt with slight train. Zipper closure at center back. Unlined with bodice and sleeved interfaced in maroon silk chiffon. Under layers of very stiff olive netting. Inner support bodice of copper brown silk; extends below waist to knee to form underskirt. Back zipper.

Description: Evening gown of black crepe with maroon sequin trim. Full-length. Bodice of thin net covered with swirling pattern of magenta purple sequins. Rounded neckline. Short sleeves with shoulder pads. Empire waist has set-in waistband with added butterfly-shaped panel below set-in panel on front. Flared skirt, bias-cut. Left side opening (closure missing); bodice has center front opening with 5 snaps and hook & eye at neckline. Unlined. Designer's label at inside waist: "Balenciaga / 10 Avenue George V Paris" "Made in Paris" label sewn below designer's label.

Description: Evening hat of black silk satin and black ostrich feathers. hat is formed as a black satin domed crown totally covered with black ostrich feathers, forming a cloud around the wearer's head. At front, and running below feathers around head, is wide band of black silk satin, with a bow at front center. Hat is lined in black silk.

Description: Jacket of black satin covered with velvet floral and embroidery appliques. Hip-length jacket flares from waist to hem. Standing portrait collar with sweetheart neckline. Long fitted sleeves with flared black satin cuffs. Center front opening with 5 non-functioning large circular black satin covered buttons and various hidden hooks and snaps. Complex inner structure. Jacket has inner boned bustier-like structure that zippers up front and has inner petersham belt below bust. Jacket "shell" is attached to this structure. All parts lined. Designer's label at left inside seam: "Pierre Balmain" Handwritten style(?) tag underneath: "172379" Jacket is part of an ensemble, and has a matching short black wool skirt with black satin band at waist.

Constructed of layered netting with encased gold lame cut outs and leaf motifs of black lace, gold lace, beading, sequins and gold braid by Lesage. Designer's label at left side seam near armhole: "Pierre Balmain / Paris" Style number on back of designer's label: "172.377"

Designed with pointed toes, the shoes have uppers of of blue and gold brocade with large circular gold colored metal disc at vamp, set with rhinestones, and with a wide ribbon of same brocade extending from beneath the button to outside edge. 2 1/2" high modified Louis heel is covered with same brocade and tapers to base. Designer's stamp inside: "Roger Vivier / Paris" and "sur mesure"

Description: Evening suit of black velvet. The ensemble consists of a jacket of black velvet with machine embroidered vine and floral motifs in black threads and black beads. The coat has a notched collar, long sleeves with wide cuffs and two non-functional buttons on each sleeve, and two non-functional pockets at front. Center-front opening with two circular black satin-covered buttons. The lapels, cuffs, and pocket flaps are all of black satin. The knee-length skirt of of the same fabric, with satin waistband. Short zipper closure at side with two hook-and-eyes in waistband. Designer's label inside jacket at collar: "Givenchy", with model number written on cloth tape sewn underneath label: "74075"

[illeg.] / June 5th /73"; other inscriptions on other guard, too fragile to examine.

Description: Folding fan. Guards and sticks of carved and pierced ivory (bone?)with a foliage designs. The white sheer organdy leaf is hand-painted with central vignette of a garden scene of a couple greeting a woman seated on a bench. The leaf with added hand-panted border of a garland of flowers. Reverse is unadorned. No visible labels, marks or signatures. Fan has been in-expertly mended at some point previous to entering collection.

No visible labels, marks or signatures. Fan has alternately been identified as Irish lace or machine-made lace, and dated 1830's or 1880-1899.

Description: Hat of gray felt. The hat is styled as a man's fedora. The crown is of gray felt, canted backwards, with flattened top which is sunken-in. Brim slants down in front and turns up in back, and is quilted with concentric stitching. Remains of threads and holes indicate hat originally had some form of band around the base of the crown. Hat is unlined, with inner hatband of steel blue gray grosgrain ribbon inside base of crown. Affixed to inner hatband is black elasticized cord to secure hat to wearer's head. Maker's label sewn to inner hatband: "Valerie / Hat / Paris - New York", with size label sewn to edge of maker's label: "22 1/2"

Description: Pair of gloves of kid skin leather; off-white; just below wrist length; single snap fastenings at wrist. On back of each glove, running length-wise down hand are three embroidered bands, pink and blue chevrons in diamond formation on dark blue bands. Cuffs from wrist to end are lined with black silk heavily embroidered with floral motifs in blue, pinks, reds, whites, greens, etc. in chain-stitch. Remainder of glove is unlined. Stamped inside glove: "Modèle déposé [Fr-En: Registered Design] / Paris" and "6" and part of other marks. Metal parts of the snaps have what appear to be Chinese/Japanese characters stamped into them.
