Mourning dress of black silk and lace in aesthetic style. Yoke has triangular shaped overlay of black lace trimmed with double rows of black silk ribbon and black lace ruffles on front and back. Attached gathered sash snaps at center back and has trailing, knotted end. Demi-gigot sleeves with lace overlay from wrist to elbow. Watteau back; slightly trained. Closes at center front with three hidden buttons and five hooks & eyes on yoke; partially attached lining of gray cotton that closes with twenty-three buttons down center front. Reinforced hem.

Designed as a stylized bow shape created from a tube of black silk, the open ends are stuffed to be open, and the whole is folded and sewn down, and mounted on a small plastic comb to secure it to the wearer's head. Measurements: Side To Side: 22 cm. Front to Back: 6 cm. Height: 8 cm.

Pillbox style hat of mustard yellow dyed Persian lamb (aka astrakhan). The short, cylindrical crown has a flat, inset top of brown velvet. The hat is lined in a bronze silk(?), and has inner brown grosgrain ribbon headband. Brown elastic cord to help secure it to wearer's head.

Calotte of brown straw. Teardrop shaped crown of dark brown straw, with the "point" of the teardrop extending down the right side of the wearer's head. The edge of the crown is trimmed with two bands of grosgrain ribbon, cream and brown, which have been tightly pleated and arranged to simulate a herringbone pattern. At the right side the ribbons form two simulated plumes. Unlined with a headband of dark brown grosgrain ribbon. A small cream stitch on the hatband indicates the front of the hat. The hat is accompanied by a single short hatpin, the head of which is covered with dark brown grosgrain ribbon matching that of the hat. Retailer's label sewn to inner hatband: "Neiman-Marcus"

Caplet of ermine. A) Short cape/caplet of white ermine fur. No collar, with high neckline. Single armhole at right side, set low, allowing lower arm to come through. Left side with no armhole, but with extra fullness so caplet drapes over arm. Fastens at upper left with hook and loop. As designed, the strips of fur appear diagonal when worn, creating the image of the piece being cut on the bias. Lined in pale peach/cream silk. Designer's label at inside right: "Madeline Vionnet / depose" B) Large "puff" of ermine tails to ornament left shoulder. Loop on back to attaches to closure.
