Embroidered waistcoat

Description: Men's waistcoat of white silk with multicolored silk floral embroidery. High neckline, sleeveless, center front closure with buttons of self. Along center front, neckline, bottom hem, and angled shallow hip pockets is floral embroidery in dark pink, greens, yellow, and blue creating stylized sprays and leaves at regular intervals, with smaller repeating motifs on an angled grid along all front. Back of waistcoat of white cotton.

Description: Long waistcoat of green silk satin with supplemental weft stripe and supplemental warp creating the effect of floral embroidery. Self-covered buttons are hidden under front placket. Crescent shaped pockets have scalloped flaps. Backed in green and white striped fabric.

Description: Man’s ditto suit of light green silk embroidered in silver metallic thread and trimmed in sequins and covered embroidered buttons. A) Coat with standup collar and flap pockets. Lined in pink silk. B) Waistcoat. Flap pockets and tie back. Lined in pink silk and backed in linen. C) Breeches have matching embroidered bans around hem.

Description: Court coat of medium blue and off white striped silk satin with floral embroidery. Knee-length, long sleeves, high standing collar, long vent at center back. Purse

Description: Purse of multicolored Bargello needlepoint. The envelope-style purse is covered in silk embroidery in greens, blues, reds, pinks, black, etc., in the Florentine Bargello, edged in green wool. On one side, under flap, is rectangular section with monogram FH and date 1775 worked in embroidery. Opens to reveal 2 separate compartments, lined in green homespun wool. Silk embroidery is disintegrating to reveal canvas ground.

Description: Woman’s shoe of white patterned silk with pleated ruffle on vamp and metal embroidery at toe. Pointed toe, silk binding hand stitched around opening, kitten/Louis heel with wooden(?) support, sole of leather undifferentiated for left/right foot.

Description: Chopines/pattens with wood soles, leather uppers, and cast iron supports. Laces missing. Would have been worn over other footwear for protection.

Mitts

Description: Mitts of ecru knitted silk. Below wrist-length. Thin openwork band along upper edge of fingerless section and of upper edge of the half-thumb. From base of palm to lower edge are bands of openwork borders, and a wide band of "checkerboard" openwork.
