Headpiece

Description: Headpiece, possibly for a wedding. The headpiece is formed as a "butterfly" shaped wired under-structure covered with white velvet, curved to fit the wearer across the top of the head from ear to ear. The "wings" of the butterfly are covered with a wide white mesh, and on each side is a large artificial flower of white taffeta and white velvet, with green velvet leaves with rhinestones. Some remains of beige veiling. No labels or tags.

Pillbox Hat

Description: Pillbox hat of cream satin entirely covered with beading and rhinestones. The low, circular crown is covered in a ground of silver/white sequins with scattered fuchsia and clear rhinestones and light blue beads. At top of crown is central rosette with central fuchsia stone surrounded by a ring of clear stones. Retailer's labels inside: "Neiman-Marcus / Made to order"; "Made in France for / Neiman-Marcus"

Hat

Description: Hat of black straw. The hat is designed with a flat-top, cylindrical crown encircled by a wide band of off-white grosgrain ribbon, folded in half lengthwise, and by a wide band of black grosgrain ribbon which is tied at back in a large bow. The narrow brim, of same straw, is wider at front than back, and angles downwards steeply. Retailer's labe: "Volk".

Description: Hat of off-white cord-work. Constructed on a stiffed base of off-white mesh, the crown is styled as a modified, over-sized pillbox, with a shallow domed shape. The crown is entirely covered in cord-work and knit ribbon of off-white, forming a dense ground. At top of crown is a finial composed of beige flattened spheroid shapes attached to cords. Toque

Description: Toque hat of black felt. The brimless hat has a high, cylindrical crown which is higher in front than back; and with a sunken top which is domed at center. Around the front and sides are applied wide curving bands of black satin ribbon. The front and sides are overlaid by black net veiling, which extends slightly down over wearer's face. The hat is unlined. Stamped inside: "Body Made In / Italy / Union Made".

Description: Hat of black velvet. Soft cylindrical crown has a flattened top, and is encircled at base by a band of black grosgrain ribbon, tied into a bow at side and with trailing ends. Almost circular brim is split at right side, curves down somewhat, and is enhanced by concentric rows of top-stiching. The underside of the brim is lined in white. Designer's label: "Betmar"

Description: Hat of natural straw. The high, cylindrical crown is slightly domed, and is encircled by two wide bands of pale yellow grosgrain ribbon. The brim is off-center, wider at front, and turns up sharply at edge. The brim is edged with same ribbon as encircles the crown. Styled somewhat as a calotte (also spelled "calot"), the domed crown is formed of a coiled spiral of an ornate braid of strands of strung golden and silver sequins, and wired chenille. Description: Hat of red straw. The domed crown is of woven red straw which appears as a finely woven thin straw ground with a secondary wider red straw woven throughout forming an "overpattern". The wide brim turns up deeply, forming a bowl around the crown. The upper part of the brim, which faces the crown, shows the finely woven pattern, while the underside of the brim, which faces outwards, has the same secondary wider straw patterning. Description: Hat of off-white straw. The domed crown is composed of flattened tiers to form a beret-like layer effect. The lower edge is trimmed in an off-white fabric, which repeats as a band of tubular ribbon and fan-comb at one side. The crown is unlined, with an inner hatband of off-white grosgrain ribbon. Two small plastic combs are attached to the inner hatband to secure the hat to wearer's head.

Description: Hat of pink fur felt. Designed as a modified sailor or "Pamela" hat, the domed crown is set within "walls" formed by the steeply upturned brim. Description: Hat of navy blue straw. The very shallow crown is slightly domed, and surmounted by a large flat grosgrain ribbon bow. The wide brim curves down at outer edges, forming a deep curve. The whole rests on a hidden skull-cap crown with panel that extends down and over the back and sides of head. The hat is overlaid with a dark blue net veil worked with circular areas.
