Capture Cross Section of Pb208 for C Neutrons

Description: From abstract: "Using the method of induced radioactivity, the capture cross section of Pb[^]208 for C neutrons is found to be .00045 ± .00015 x 10[^]-24 cm[^]2. This is definitely lower than the value of .001 x 10[^]-24 reported by Maurer and Ramm."

Capture of Fast Neutrons by Pb208

Description: From abstract: "Comparison of the activity produced by fast neutrons on lead with other activations corroborates the assignment of the 3.2 hr. activity as Pb209, and the assignment of the reaction as capture of fast neutrons. Two different measurements show that the neutrons captured have energies greater than 100 KEV. This average capture cross section for primary neutrons from 7.5 MEV deuterons on a thick target of beryllium is measured as 10[^]-27 ca[^]2."

Capture - Positron Ratios for Allowed and First-Forbidden Transitions

Description: Report issued by the Brookhaven National Laboratory discussing capture positron ratios. As stated on page 1, "the purpose of this report is to present aids for the simple determination of the relative probabilities of K-electron capture and positron emission for allowed and first-forbidden transitions" (p. 1). This report includes tables, and illustrations.

Carcinogenesis by Radioactive Substances

Description: Knowledge of the potential dangers of exposure to radioactive substances and the institution of proper safety precautions have helped to reduce accidental exposures to radioactive substances. In the following technical report we shall review briefly carcinogenesis in man by naturally occurring and artificially produced radioactive substances, the lung cancer problem in miners, the development of bone tumors in luminous dial painters and in patients treated with radium-containing nostrums, and t… more

Carnotite Deposits near Edgemont, South Dakota

Description: From introduction: This report describes briefly the deposits of uranium ore discovered in June 1951 near Edgemont, Fall River County, South Dakota. It is a preliminary report, based upon rapid reconnaissance of a small area around the original discovery. It is intended for those who may be interested in further prospecting a large potential area and in developing and mining the deposits.

Carolinas Virginia Tube Reactor: Large Plant Study

Description: From introduction: The Carolinas Virginia Tube Reactor is to be designed as a prototype for a large-scale plant of about 200 megawatts electrical or larger, wherein operation with natural uranium feed material may be feasible but such feed material can only be considered if it is the more economical.

Case Reports -- 1962. Cytomegalic Inclusion Disease of the Submaxillary Gland. Etiologic Factors in Obstruction of the Superior Vena Cava

Description: The case history and autopsy finding are presented for a case of cytomegalic inclusion disease in the salivary glad of a 5-month-old male infant. The relation of viruses to cytomegalic inclusion disease is discussed briefly. The etiologic factors in obstruction of the superior vena cava in a group of cases that came to necropsy are discussed.

Catahoula Formation of the Texas Coastal Plain: Depositional Systems, Composition, Structural Development, Ground-Water Flow History, and Uranium Distribution

Description: From objectives: This report describes the physical geology of the Catahoula Formation-its genetic stratigraphy, structure, mineralogical composition, and post-depositional history and discusses the known distribution of uranium within the context of these geological parameters. Emphasis is on definition of primary physical and historical factors affecting the mobilization, transport, and concentration of uranium in the Catahoula Formation.

A Catalog of Fallout Patterns

Description: Abstract: In the event of a massive nuclear attack, the combined fallout from quantities of surface-burst nuclear weapons must be considered as a serious hazard over an extended area. This report presents one method for rapidly estimating the fallout from such an attack.

Cathode Sputtering Problems

Description: The question of the nature and charge of the metallic particles emitted in cathode sputtering has been answered experimentally: the particles are primarily neutral atoms. The proof was obtained from the moving particles themselves by a new "spectroscopic method of vapor pressure measurement" in combination with a "vapor pressure measurement from coating density."

Cation Exchange in Acetone-Water-Hydrochloric Acid

Description: Abstract: Distribution coefficients have been measured for the partition of metal ions between cation exchange resin and acetone-water-hydrochloric acid solutions. the differences in distribution coefficients of metal ions are greater in acetone-water media than in aqueous media of the same hydrochloric acid concentration. Using distribution coefficient data, conditions for column separations of mixtures can be selected. Column separations of metal ion mixtures can be effected by eluting wit… more

Cation Exchange Separation of Divalent Metal Ions From Rare Earths

Description: From abstract: "The divalent metal ions of calcium, magnesium, nickel, and strontium are eluted from a cation exchange column with 1.5M nitric acid and separated from trivalent rare earths, aluminum and yttrium. Prior sequential elution of other metal ions with hydrochloric acid in acetone-water or with dilute hydrofluoric acid does not interfere with the present separation method."
