Airborne Radiometric Survey in Northern New Jersey and Southeastern New York

Description: Abstract: "An airborne radiometric survey of the pre-Cambrian Highlands of New Jersey and New York, and Triassic Newark Basin located in 14 radiometric anomalies in the Highlands. No commercial deposit of uranium discovered. Ground checks revealed that most anomalies were caused by large masses or residual boulders of slightly radioactive granitoid gneiss."

Airborne Reconnaissance in the Valley of Fire-Muddy Mountains Region, Nevada

Description: Abstract: The Valley of Fire-Muddy Mountains region, located 20 to 30 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada, was given approximately 25-percent airborne radioactive coverage during the fall of 1954. Rocks in the area range from Cambrian to Miocene in age. Uranium was known to occur at two sedimentary horizons at the time the airborne program began. Aircraft Nuclear Propulsion Project Quarterly Progress Report For Period Ending June 10, 1955

Description: The development of the reactor layout is continuing. New features that have been incorporated because of stress, fluid flow, or fabricability considerations include an elliptical fuel expansion tank, a rounded dome to enclose the top of the reactor, a newly designed sodium pump impeller, and other related items. Recently completed heat exchanger tests yielded consistent data from which a series of heat exchangers is being designed. The most promising of these will be chosen for the ART.

The Alpha Half-Life of the Isotope Pu-241

Description: A plutonium solution of known Pu-241 content was purified by solvent extraction techniques to remove uranium and americium impurities. Portions of this purified solution were then analyzed for U-237 as a function of time. Since the growth of U-237 occurs directly by the alpha decay of Pu-241, these measurements provided sufficient data for calculation of the Pu-241 alpha half-life, which was found to be 2.91 ± 0.50 x 10⁵ years.

Description: Memorandum presenting an investigation to determine the altitude performance characteristics of the YJ73-GE-3 turbojet engine in an altitude chamber. The component performance was determined at two positions of the inlet guide vanes over a range of engine speeds, exhaust-nozzle areas, and flight conditions.
