Interaction between the spars of semimonocoque wings with cutouts

Description: "The stresses in the two spars of a model of a wing having three rectangular cutouts were calculated by the PIBAL method, a modification of Southwell's method of systematic relaxations. The model was built and tested in the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn Aeronautical Laboratories and the deflections and strains measured were compared with calculated values. The agreement was found to be satisfactory" (p. 1).

Interaction of a Free Flame Front With a Turbulence Field

Description: "Small-perturbation spectral-analysis techniques are used to obtain the root-mean-square flame-generated turbulence velocities and the attenuating pressure fluctuations stemming from interaction of a constant-pressure flame front with a field of isotropic turbulence in the absence of turbulence decay processes. The anisotropic flame-generated turbulence velocities are found to be of about the same intensity as those of the incident isotropic turbulence, the lateral turbulence velocities being a… more

Interaction of a Jet and Flat Plate Located in an Airstream

Description: Report presenting an evaluation of the interaction between a flat plate and a nearby jet issuing from a convergent nozzle over a range of pressure ratios and free-stream Mach numbers. The effect on the interaction of the presence of streamline, blunt-base, and curved-base fairings between the plate and parabolic afterbody housing the exit nozzle was also investigated.

The Interaction of a Reflected Shock Wave with the Boundary Layer in a Shock Tube

Description: "Ideally, the reflection of a shock from the closed end of a shock tube provides, for laboratory study, a quantity of stationary gas at extremely high temperature. Because of the action of viscosity, however, the flow in the real case is not one-dimensional, and a boundary layer grows in the fluid following the initial shock wave. In this paper simplifying assumptions are made to allow an analysis of the interaction of the shock reflected from the closed end with the boundary layer of the initi… more

Interaction of an Exhaust Jet and Elementary Contoured Surfaces Located in a Supersonic Air Stream

Description: Report presenting an investigation of an exhaust jet and elementary contoured surface at Mach number 1.6 over a range of nozzle pressure ratios from jet-off to a pressure ratio of 9. The effect of the presence of streamline fairings between the surfaces and parabolic afterbody housing the exhaust nozzle on the interaction was also investigated.

The Interaction of Aqueous Be(NO3)2 Solutions With Some Organic Acids

Description: 1. A study was made of the interaction between beryllium ions (Be(NO3)2) and oxalic, malonic, succinic, lactic, citric, maleic, and salicylic acids by determining the H+ ion concentration. It was established that the degree of interaction between Be2+ ions and organic acids can be arranged in the following series: oxalate = malonate > salicylate > maleate + citrate > tartrate > succinate > lactate. 2. The inability of the Be2+ ion to form only slightly disassociated compounds in the reaction wi… more

Interaction of Be with Fission Neutrons

Description: To determine whether or not the (n,2n) reaction in Be would produce a net increase in fission neutrons in a power plant, the distribution of In resonance neutrons slowed down from fission energies in a graphite block was measured with and without a 2" of Be in front of a U3O8 slab undergoing fission. The thermal neutrons producing the fissions were obtained by slowing down neutrons from a cyclotron source. The observed distribution without Be was well represented by a Gaussian source range 36 c… more

Interaction of Bearing and Tensile Loads on Creep Properties of Joints

Description: The interaction of bearing and tensile loads on the creep behavior of joints was studied. A specimen was designed for this study which possessed some of the general features of pin and rivet joint connections and an apparatus was constructed to apply both bearing and tensile loads to the joint model. Deformation measurements were made by use of a photogrid printed on the joint model.

The interaction of boundary layer and compression shock and its effect upon airfoil pressure distributions

Description: Report presenting an investigation of the mechanism of interaction of compression shock with boundary layer. Shockless pressure distributions at supercritical Mach numbers were found to be accounted for by a marked thickening of the boundary layer for some distance ahead of a shock wave.

Interaction of Column and Local Buckling in Compression Members

Description: Note presenting two methods for calculating actual buckling stress, including the author's exact theory and the method of split rigidities, both of which lead almost identical results. Columns with box-, I-, H-, and T-sections and angles are considered separately.

Interaction of Heparin Active Factor and Egg-Yolk Lipoprotein

Description: There is an active principle in heparinized plasma that may be studied in vitro with a prescribed lipoprotein-containing medium. To this end the interaction of this active principle or factor was studied with lipoprotein species isolated from egg yolk.

Interaction of solutions of uranium salts

Interactions of 141 Mev Negative Pions With Deuterium

Description: "The interactions of 141 plus/minus 8 Nev n minus mesons with deuterium were studied using a 15 cm deuterium bubble chamber. The elastic differential cross section was measured by examining the angular correlation, range of positive recoil, and coplanarity of those scatterings which resulted in two outgoing charged particles. The accuracy of the measurement sin the backward hemisphere was on the order of 10-15 percent. This elastic differential cross section was compared to the results of im… more

Interactions of High Energy Antiprotons in Hydrogen

Description: In the fall of 1961 an extensive program of investigation of high energy p-p interactions was begun at the Brookhaven AGS. The BNL 20" liquid hydrogen bubble chamber and an electrostatically separated beam were used to obtain a total (to date) of 300,000 exposure with about 15 antiprotons per pulse. The exposures were made at antiproton momenta of 3.25 Bev/c and 3.69 Bev/c in the laboratory. Approximately 80% of the exposures were made 3.69 Bev/c antiprotons. A wide variety of reactions occur i… more

Interactions of High Energy Particles With Nuclei

Description: Report discussing elastic scattering and diffractive production processes induced in nuclear targets by high energy projectiles. Special attention is paid to the interaction of high energy hadrons and photons. The common features of all these processes are emphasized throughout the article: The multiple scattering and shadowing processes inside of the target nuclei. An effort is made to develop a unified way of treating nuclear interactions of particles which are either hadrons or exhibit some … more

The input variables are any two of P, p, T (pressure, density, and temperature) in the single phase regions, and either P or T for the saturated liquid or vapor states. The output is pressure, density, temperature, internal energy, enthalpy, entropy, specific heat capacities (Cp and Cv), speed of sound and, in most cases, viscosity, thermal con… more
