Feed Materials Production Center Summary Technical Report: July 1, 1963-September 30, 1963

Description: From abstract: The temperature of molten uranium was measured indirectly by an infrared radiation pyrometer. The emissivities of graphite and molten uranium were determined, and a series of equations correlating pyrometer readings with melt temperatures was derived.

Fifth Quarterly Progress Report on Fission Product Applications Using Gaseous Beta Sources

Description: "Rates of acetylene polymerization induced by Kr/sup 85/ in d-c fields were up to 15 times greater than those observed when no fields were imposed. Work to determine the relations between acetylene pressure, Kr/sup 85/ concentration, and the field intensity is continuing. In other activities, equipment is being designed to study the effects of megacycle electric fields on radioinduced chemical reactions."

Figure 2.3: Arms-II Computer-Program and Data-Processing Monitor

Description: Flowchart outlining the event sequencing in the "MAIN" program (primary body of operational instructions which accepts data, routines data to sequential manipulations, prints data, etc.) within the Aerial Radiological Monitoring Survey (ARMS-II) system. The ARMS-II system is used "to perform aerial surveys of ground radioactivity. It supplies both geographical position and radioactivity data in digital form, suitable for use with automatic plotting procedures" (p. 5, report)

Filters to Provide Nearly Monoenergetic X-Rays

Description: Abstract: Four filters for use with a 250 KVP pulsating X-ray machine were constructed to calibrate radiation detection instruments in the energy region below 200 KEV. Approximately monoenergetic beams of 63, 105, 150, and 180 KEV were produced. The spectral distribution was computer suing the formula of Kulenkampff. The energies were found to drop rapidly from the peak values. The average values were checked from absorption curves obtained experimentally and found to deviate from the computed … more
