A Primer on Explosives for Coal Miners

Description: From Introduction: "Much of the information in this primer has been obtained from experiments conducted by the technologic branch of the United Sates Geological Survey at the mining experiment station at Pittsburgh, Pa. These investigations have shown the recent development of a new type of short-flame explosives, which can be used with greater safety than black powder in mines where there is dangerous gas or inflammable dust, because the flame from the explosion of black powder lasts from 2,50… more

A Primer on Explosives for Metal Miners and Quarrymen

Description: From introduction: "This bulletin aims to give the metal miner and the quarryman information similar to that given the coal miner in Bulletin 17. Inflammable gas or dust is seldom, if ever, found in quarries or metal mines, and the danger from using explosives there is less than in coal mines; but, as the figures show, the number of men killed and injured yearly in accidents caused by explosives proves the need of both miners and mine officials striving to see that none but proper explosives ar… more

The Principles and Practice of Sampling Metallic Metallurgical Materials: with Special Reference to the Sampling of Copper Bullion

Description: From Introduction: "In this report considerable space has been devoted to general and theoretical principles on the ground that under modern conditions the best results in any field of activity can be attained only with the aid of an adequate knowledge of the best theories underlying the practice. The diffusion of such knowledge in the field of sampling metallic metallurgical materials appears to have been quite insufficient, and it is felt that when the principles involved are once thoroughly … more
