International Practical Temperature Scale of 1948: Text Revision of 1960

Description: Report is a text revision of the International Temperature Scale of 1948; the numerical values of temperatures remain the same. The adjective "Practical" was added to the name by the International Committee on Weights and Measures. The scale continues to be based upon six fixed and reproducible equilibrium temperatures to which values have been assigned, and upon the same interpolation formulas relating temperatures to the indications of specified measuring instruments. Some changes have been m… more

International Review of Environmental Specimen Banking

Description: Abstract: In September 1983, the "8th U. S. - German Seminar of State and Planning on Environmental Specimen Banking" and the "International Review of Environmental Specimen Banking" were held at the National Bureau of Standards. At these meetings the current status of Environmental Specimen Banking Program in the U. S., Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), and other countries was presented and discussed. This publication contains a brief summary of these meetings and separate contributions descr… more

Interpretation and Evaluation of the Uranium Occurences Near Goodsprings, Nevada: Final Report

Description: Abstract: The uranium occurrences near Goodsprings, Clark Co., Nevada, are divided into two distinct types which differ from each other in geographic distribution, localization of mineralization, mineralogy and origin. None of the known deposits is of present commercial significance and therefore this study emphasizes the genetic rather than the economic aspects.

The Interpretation of Biaxial-Tension Experiments Involving Constant Stress Ratios

Description: "The slip theory of plasticity is applied to the problem of calculating the strains associated with biaxial tension for the case of constant stress ratios and is found to be in better agreement with experiment than the octahedral-shear and maximum-shear theories usually employed to analyze such data" (p. 1).

Interpretation of boundary-layer pressure-rake data in flow with a detached shock

Description: From Summary: "A procedure is presented for determining boundary-layer quantities from pressure-rake data, which include the combined effects of viscous and shock losses. The problem is analyzed using schileren photographs of the shock configuration, the continuity of mass relationship, and the characteristics of the turbulent boundary layer that its outer edge is defined by a rapid change in slope in the Mach-number profiles in the vicinity of the edge."

Interpretation of Scattering from a Liquid-like Binary

Description: In the general liquid-like binary three radial densities relating to A-A, B-B, and A-B pairs are needed to characterize the scattering. The three densities can be obtained by the Fourier inversion of the weighted combination of three diffraction patterns, each of which differs by the alteration of the scattering of one or both components. If the density of atoms regardless of type is the same around both components, then only two functions, one this distribution, and the other involving the ord… more

Interpretation of Well Logs in a Carbonate Aquifer

Description: This report uses log analysis methods to analyze and compare "geologic and hydrologic data obtained from well tests and core studies," focusing specifically on the Edwards aquifer in Texas. It contains maps, tables, and figures.

Interpretation of Westwood, New Jersey Rainfall Data

Description: "Progress is reported in an evaluation of fission product concentration in rain as a function of time, location, and meteorological setting. Data on rainfall collected at Westwood, N. J., were analyzed for information on the mechanisms of fallout deposition, seasonal variations in fallout, the stratospheric residence time of W/sup 185/ resulting from Operation Hardtack, and the accuracy of pot samplers for sample collection. Data from other collection stations were also analyzed for consistency… more

The interrelated effects of engine rotor momentum and flight regime on the dynamic stability of high-performance aircraft

Description: Report presenting a five-degree-of-freedom analysis of aircraft maneuvering stability, which showed that gyroscopic moments due to engine rotor momentum produced considerable rolling asymmetry for certain values of stability derivatives and flight conditions. Results regarding the altitude effects, Mach number effects, initial load factor, effective dihedral, static stability, roll velocity, and comparison with simplified longitudinal- and lateral-mode theory are provided.

Interrelation of Exhaust-Gas Constituents

Description: This report presents the results of an investigation conducted to determine the interrelation of the constituents of the exhaust gases of internal-combustion engines and the effect of engine performance on these relations. Six single-cylinder, liquid-cooled tests engines and one 9-cylinder radial air-cooled engine were tested. Various types of combustion chambers were used and the engines were operated at compression ratios from 5.1 to 7.0 using spark ignition and from 13.5 to 15.6 using compre… more

Interstitial Compounds as Fuel Cell Catalysts: Their Preparative Techniques and Electrochemical Testing

Description: From Introduction: "This report is a consolidated account of the total program with the exception of work done at Tyco Laboratories. Only a summary of Tyco's findings regarding the activity of the materials has been included in this report since a comprehensive report on their work will appear separately."

Interval Between Pulses of Counter or Scaler

Description: This paper is based off of an operation of a recording tape scaler, which records pulses from a counter or scaler upon a tape as a function of time. With the recording tape scaler, the interval between pulses of counter or scaler is measured in this report.

Introduction to Diffusion Theory and to Pile-Theory

Description: The following report describes and foretells the situation in medium in which neutrons are being (a)produced as fast neutrons, (b) slowed down to thermal speeds by impacts with nuclei, and (c) absorbed by nuclei in such a manner that sometimes fresh fast neutrons appear at the place where a thermal neutron has just appeared.

Introduction to Electrical-Circuit Analogies for Beam Analysis

Description: Note presenting an application of the well-known analogy between electrical and mechanical systems to the calculation of stresses and deflections of beams. The main objective of the paper is to give an explanation of the analogies in a basic manner which will enable a structural engineer to understand the process of designing the electrical circuits. Analogies are given for beams in bending and torsion with static loads and in vibrational motion.
