Interim Report on Exploration in the Yellow Cat Area, Grand County, Utah

Description: From introduction: This report summarizes the results of diamond-drill and wagon-drill exploration by the U. S. Geological Survey in the Yellow Cat area from October 9, 1951, to May 22, 1952. The Yellow Cat area is about 10 miles southeast of Thompsons, Grand County, Utah. It is accessable by two graded roads which leave U. S. Highway 50 at points 5 miles east of Thompsons and 7 miles west of Cisco, Utah. A sampling plant and purchasing depot, belonging to the United States Vanadium Co., is at … more

Interim Report on Fatigue Characteristics of a Typical Metal Wing

Description: Constant amplitude fatigue tests of seventy-two P-51D "Mustang" wings are reported. The tests were performed by a vibrational loading system and by an hydraulic loading device for conditions with and without varying amounts of pre-load. The results indicate that: (a) the frequency of occurrence of fatigue at any one location is related to the range of the loads applied, (b) the rate of propagation of visible cracks is more or less constant for a large portion of the life of the specimen, and (c… more

Interim Report on Free-Spinning-Tunnel Investigation of a 1/25-Scale Model of the McDonnell F3H-1N Airplane, TED No. NACA AD 3100

Description: "An investigation was conducted in the Langley 20-foot free-spinning tunnel on a 1/23-scale model of the McDonnell F3H-1N airplane. The effects of control settings and movements upon the erect and inverted spin and recovery characteristics of the model were determined for the clean condition. Spin-recovery parachute tests were also performed. The results indicated that erect spins obtained on the airplane for the take-off or combat loadings should be satisfactorily terminated if full rudder rev… more

Interim Report on Geologic Investigations in the Monument Valley Area, Arizona

Description: From abstract: The Geological Survey has completed a program of uranium investigation and geologic mapping in the Monument Valley area, Apache and Navajo Counties, Ariz. The program, undertaken on behalf of the 'Atomic Energy Commission, had two principal objectives. The first was to establish prospecting guides for uranium ore deposits. The second objective was to appraise the relative favorableness of formations and areas for the occurrence of uranium deposits in order to select localities th… more

An Interim Report on the Development and Application of Environmental Mapped Data Digitization, Encoding, Analysis, and Display Software for the ALICE System, Volume 2

Description: Volume 2 presents information which is directly related to the actual computer code arid operational characteristics (keys and subroutines) of the software. The authors expect that Volume I will be of more interest to developers of software than to users of the software. However, developers of software should be aware that the code developed for the ALICE System operates in an environment where much of the peripheral hardware to the PDP-10 is ANL/AMD built. For this reason, portions of the code… more

Interim Report on the Radioactive Carbonate-Hematite Veins Near Salmon Bay, Prince of Wales Island, Southeastern Alaska

Description: From abstract: In the vicinity of Salmon Bay near the northeastern end of Prince of Wales Island, southeastern Alaska, samples obtained in 1951 from narrow, steeply dipping, carbonate-hematite veins contain as much as ,O.07 percent equivalent uranium. The average grade of these veins cannot be reliably stated because no systematic sampling has been done. No uranium or thorium minerals have been identified. Several chemical analyses indicate only a few thousandths percent uranium. Most of the ra… more
