Delayed Failure Hydrogen Embrittlement of Zirconium: Quarterly Report Number 1, September - December 1961

Description: Abstract: "The purpose of this investigation is to determine the extent to which zirconium exhibits delayed failure (static fatigue) as caused by a combination of absorbed hydrogen and applied stress. Both notched and unnotched specimens of unalloyed zirconium and Zircaloy-2 are being initially hydrogenated to 200 ppm by means of a modified Sieverts apparatus, and delayed failure studies are proceeding at room-temperature. Thus far only preliminary data on unnotched, unalloyed zirconium are ava… more

Studies of reactor containment structures : bi-monthly progress report, July-August 1962

Description: A report that aims to resolve three problem areas. These solutions involve extending the incremental method to apply to the solution of cylinders with a rigid base and a hemispherical head, investigating shield-structure interaction, and the determination of the dynamic response of vessels with various end conditions.

Studies of reactor containment structures : bi-monthly progress report, September-October 1962

Description: A report about a project which aims to resolve three problem areas. The first problem pertains to a solution for a rigid-strain hardening material obeying the Mises yield condition, the second area relates to preparing the FORTRAN program for a solution of the simplified shield structure model, and the third area relates to computer programs for the response of spheres and infinite cylinders have been rewritten in FORTRAN.

Leakage Neutron Spectrum of U²³³ Critical Assembly

Description: Abstract: "The leakage neutron spectrum of a U²³³ spherical critical assembly (Jezebel) has been measured using nuclear emulsions as radiator and detector. The spectrum obtained is compared with similar measurements on the U-235 and Pu-239 analogues of Jezebel U²³³; it is found to agree closely with that of the Pu-239 assembly and to be harder than that of the U-235 assembly. All three spectra are compared with theoretical spectra obtained from a numerical approximation to the neutron transport… more

A Monte Carlo Calculation of the Neutron Detection Efficiency of a Hydrogen Bubble Chamber

Description: Abstract: "The calculation of the efficiency of the Los Alamos hydrogen bubble chamber for detection of neutrons in the energy range 5 to 35 MeV has been done using a "Monte Carlo" technique. The detection efficiency is calculated as a function of energy of the neutron and angle of the proton recoil."
