Literature Survey on World Isotope and Radiation Technology : First Semi-Annual Report Covering the Period from June 15, 1961 to December 14, 1961

Description: The following report is the first semi-annual report of a literature survey designed to investigate the uses and technology of radioisotopes in the countries of the world from 1955 to the present. This survey includes two phases: 1) involves the direct comparison of radioisotopic work in all fields in various countries as demonstrated at international conferences. 2) involves a more detailed examination and evaluation of the individual fields of interest selected previously (Phase II is also ex… more

Literature Survey on World Isotope and Radiation Technology : Quarterly Report Covering the Period from December 15, 1961 to March 14, 1962

Description: Abstract: "This quarterly report, ARF 1194-10, covers the work performed in the time period December 15, 1961 to March 14, 1962, on Contract No. AT(11-1)-578. In this period, Phase II, the detailed evaluation of various fields of radioisotope research, has been extended. Preliminary results on the use of radioisotopes in the industrial applications, apparatus and techniques, and metallurgy categories are presented. These preliminary studies indicate the quantity of research, growth rates, and s… more

Delayed Failure Hydrogen Embrittlement of Zirconium: Quarterly Report Number 1, September - December 1961

Description: Abstract: "The purpose of this investigation is to determine the extent to which zirconium exhibits delayed failure (static fatigue) as caused by a combination of absorbed hydrogen and applied stress. Both notched and unnotched specimens of unalloyed zirconium and Zircaloy-2 are being initially hydrogenated to 200 ppm by means of a modified Sieverts apparatus, and delayed failure studies are proceeding at room-temperature. Thus far only preliminary data on unnotched, unalloyed zirconium are ava… more

Leakage Neutron Spectrum of U²³³ Critical Assembly

Description: Abstract: "The leakage neutron spectrum of a U²³³ spherical critical assembly (Jezebel) has been measured using nuclear emulsions as radiator and detector. The spectrum obtained is compared with similar measurements on the U-235 and Pu-239 analogues of Jezebel U²³³; it is found to agree closely with that of the Pu-239 assembly and to be harder than that of the U-235 assembly. All three spectra are compared with theoretical spectra obtained from a numerical approximation to the neutron transport… more
