Rehabilitation of the South Jetty, Ocean City, Maryland

Description: Partial abstract: Frequent dredging requirements and scouring at the foundation of Ocean City Inlet's south jetty resulted in a study to determine the source of the shoaling and scouring. The study concluded that sand was being transported northward along Assateague Island, through and over the south jetty, and deposited inside the inlet. The sand was then transported north by ebb currents where it encroached on the Federal navigation channel. A rehabilitation program was initiated to create a … more

State-of-the-Art for Assessing Earthquake Hazards in the United States, Report 28: Recommended Accelerograms for Earthquake Ground Motions

Description: Abstract: "A catalog of recommended accelerograms and response spectra is provided to accompany all representative values for Richter magnitudes at distance determined peak horizontal accelerations-velocities-durations, hard and soft sites, shallow and deep earthquakes. Accelerograms are also recommended for corresponding Modified Mercalli intensities. The accelerograms are related to the Krinitzsky-Chang-Nuttli curves for magnitude and distance, and the Krinitzsky-Chang curves for MM intensity… more

Levee Underseepage Analysis for Special Foundation Conditions

Description: This report describes a research study in which techniques were developed for prediction of underseepage conditions for special cases of levee and foundation geometry. The differential equations for levee underseepage were derived and programmed in finite difference form for three special cases of boundary conditions. The developed programs allow analyses that are not restricted to the boundary conditions assumed in the conventional, closed form solution, i.e., two foundation layers of uniform … more

Levee Underseepage Analysis for Special Foundation Conditions [Floppy Disk]

Description: Computer program developed to predict underseepage conditions for special cases of levee and foundation geometry. The differential equations for levee underseepage were derived and programmed in finite difference form for three special cases of boundary conditions. The developed programs allow analyses that are not restricted to the boundary conditions assumed in the conventional, closed form solution, i.e., two foundation layers of uniform thickness with horizontal boundaries.
