Effect of Drawbar Upstream Location on Air Velocity Distribution at the Inlet Face of Reactor Segment Designed by the General Electric Company

Description: The results of flow tests on a drawbar for the General Electric reactor segment test in the MTR are reported. The drawbar is a T-shaped obstruction located as close to the upstream face of the reactor test segment as possible without serious flow distortion ; the drawbar is required for instrumentation leads and segment insertion and removal in the MTR. The effect of drawbar upstream distance on velocity distribution across the segment face is evaluated for several Reynolds numbers.

The Mechanism of Failure in Corona Discharge

Description: Abstract: "Experimental evidence is given which indicates that electronic bombardment is responsible for damage and failure of insulating material subjected to intense corona attack. The experimental revolts are further supported by some theoretical considerations of the energy-time properties of corona discharges."

Method of Calculating Performance of Dual-Rotating Propellers From Airfoil Characteristics

Description: "A method is developed for calculating the performance of a dual-rotating propeller from the section characteristics of the blade elements. The method is applied to an eight-blade dual-rotating propeller and the computed results are compared with low-speed wind-tunnel tests of the same propeller in both the tractor and pusher positions. The computations are found to agree within the experimental accuracy of the measurements" (p. 1).

Numerical Evaluation by Harmonic Analysis of the (Epsilon)-Function of the Theodorsen Arbitrary-Airfoil Potential Theory

Description: Finite trigonometric series is fitted by harmonic analysis as an approximation function to the psi function of the Theodorsen arbitrary-airfoil potential theory. By harmonic synthesis, the corresponding conjugate trigonometric series is used as an approximation to the epsilon function. A set of coefficients of particularly simple form is obtained algebraically for direct calculation of the epsilon values from the corresponding set of psi values.

Numerical Evaluation of the (Epsilon)-Integral Occurring in the Theodorsen Arbitrary Airfoil Potential Theory

Description: Report presenting the development of a method of evaluating the epsilon-integral occurring in the arbitrary airfoil theory of Theodorsen by retaining higher order terms in the Taylor expansion and by use of Simpson's rule. Formulas are given for routine calculation of the epsilon-integral and for the necessary computational coefficients.

Tuna Longline Fishery and Fishing Grounds

Description: From introduction: The Japanese tuna fishery, which formerly had for its fishing grounds almost the whole western Pacific and a part of the Indian Ocean, wherein its small vessels roamed at will, was reduced by the Pacific war to such a nearly complete state of destruction that little was left to remind one of its former condition.

Invariant Solutions of the Exact Bethe-Saltpeter Equation in General-Mass Case

Description: The invariant solutions of the Bethe-Saltpeter equation in an approximation which is more general than the ladder approximation are found in the case of non-zero exchanged-meson mass. They are expressed as series of "truncated vertex functions," which are certain combinations of the usual vertex functions. The eigenvalues of the coupling constant are determined by a transcendental equation, which is not solved explicitly.

Remarks on the Double Dispersion Approach to the Bethe-Salpeter Equation

Description: The following remarks are made on the applicability of the double dispersion approach to the Beth-Salpeter equation introduced previously. 1) Any invariant solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation in ladder approximation satisfies the double dispersion representation when the total energy-momentum is space-lake. 2) There are some exceptional invariant solutions which are not given by the previous method in the equal-mass case, but the existence of such solutions is very unlikely in the unequal-m… more
