Development of On-Line Monitoring Device to Detect the Presence/Absence of Sodium Vapor

Description: A process is being developed by the Sodium Waste Technology Program at ANL-W to remove metallic sodium from scrap and waste. The final step in the process is the removal of residual metallic sodium by evaporation at temperatures up to 482 C (900 F) and at pressures of about 10⁻² torr (1.3 Pa). Efficient operation of this process requires that the operators have a method to indicate the completion of the evaporation. This end point would signify when the chamber and scrap and waste is free of me… more

An Assessment of Steady-State Propane-Gas Tracer Method for Reaeration Coefficients--Cowaselon Creek, New York

Description: From purpose and scope: The purpose of this report is to develop and test steady-state method for the measurement of propane-gas desorption coefficients in a natural channel flow as the first phase of the field assessments of hydrocarbon gas tracer method for reaeration coefficients. Three field tests were conducted in a straight 5.2 km reach of the Cowaselon Creek near Canastota, New York in June, July, and October, 1981.

Ground-Water Monitoring in the Tucson Copper Mining District

Description: Abstract: Ground-water and tailings pond monitoring in the Upper Santa Cruz Basin Mines Task Force's Special Studies Area has been performed to determine the nature and extent of aquifer contamination from copper tailings pond's recharge in the basin. A monitoring program for each of three mining areas (Mines A, B, and D) was developed. Analysis of data shows that recharge from Mine A's ponds has caused increased hardness, sulfate and total dissolved solids in local ground water. However, pumpa… more
