Strontium Program Quarterly Summary Report: November 1958 - January 1959

Description: From Abstract: "This report is one of a sequence of quarterly reports, each designed to up-date its predecessor beginning with HASL-42, "Environmental Contamination from Weapon Tests." Herein are reported data which have accrued since HASL-51. In particular, the levels of strontium 90 in fallout, milk, tap water, vegetation, and foods are given, based on data available from November 1, 1958 to January 30, 1959."

Experimental Investigation of the Flow Field Behind an Aspect-Ratio-10 Hydrofoil Near the Water Surface

Description: Report presenting an investigation of the flow field behind a hydrofoil with an 8-inch chord and an aspect ratio of 10; the foil was operating at about 0.75 chord below the free-water surface. The downwash and water surface profiles were measured behind the hydrofoil for a variety of positions of interest. Results regarding surface contours, a comparison of surface profiles with theoretical two-dimensional waves, and downwash are presented.

Free-flight-tunnel investigation of the low-speed stability and control characteristics of a model having a fuselage of relatively flat cross section

Description: Report presenting an experimental investigation in the free-flight tunnel to determine the low-speed stability and control characteristics of a model with a fuselage of relatively flat cross section. The model was found to exhibit an erratic behavior in pitch and yaw, which appeared to be due to random trim changes associated with the flow from the forward portion of the flat fuselage. Results regarding the longitudinal stability and control characteristics and lateral stability and control cha… more

Behavior of Some Materials and Shapes in Supersonic Free Jets at Stagnation Temperatures Up to 4,210 Degrees F, and Descriptions of the Jets

Description: Report presenting testing of a number of materials and shapes in two supersonic free jets at stagnation temperatures of up to 4,210 degrees Fahrenheit. Some testing was conducted in a supersonic chemical jet and some was conducted in a ceramic-heated air jet. Materials tested included aluminum alloy, copper, Inconel, magnesium, mild steel, molybdenum, stainless steel, titanium, alumina, zirconia, graphite, bakelite, and nylon.

An investigation of supersonic store interference in the vicinity of a 22 degree swept-wing-fuselage configuration at Mach numbers of 1.61 and 2.01

Description: Report presenting an investigation in the supersonic pressure tunnel at Mach numbers 1.61 and 2.01 in which separate forces and moments were measured on a store (with five components), on a 22 degree swept wing (three components), and on a 22 degree swept-wing-fuselage combination (three components) for a range of store positions.
