Beryl Resources of New Hampshire

Description: From Introduction: "The primary purpose of this work was to summarize and bring up to date the information on beryl resources as gained from investigations during 1942-45, to examine in detail certain beryl-bearing pegmatites discovered and developed in recent years, and to study other pegmatites and groups of pegmatites known or suspected to contain beryl."

Coal Geology of the White Oak Quadrangle, Magoffin and Morgan Counties, Kentucky

Description: From abstract: The White Oak quadrangle lies near the western edge of the eastern Kentucky coalfield and includes approximately 59 square miles of parts of Magoffin and Morgan Counties, Ky. The outcropping rocks are equivalent to most of the Breathitt formation of Pennsylvanian age. The regional southeast dip of the rocks is interrupted by the Irvine-Paint Creek fault, the Caney anticline, the Grape Creek syncline, and the Johnson Creek fault.

The Crystal Structures of Three New Vanadium Oxide Minerals

Description: This report analyzes the characteristics of three vanadium-uranium ores of the Colorado Plateau by prevalence of a number of low-valence vanadium oxide minerals, usually occurring as fine-grained mixtures. The ores being analyzed are haggite, doloresite, and duttonite.

Determination of Thorium in the Parts Per Million Range in Rocks

Description: Abstract: "A procedure for the determination of thorium in the concentration range of 0.2 to 10 parts per million ThO2 in felsic or mafic rocks. Thorium is extracted by mesityl oxide and purified by iodate precipitation from nitric acid medium containing tartaric acid and hydrogen peroxide. The thorium is determined spectrophotometrically with thoron from meso-tartaric acid medium."

Dielectric Constant and Electrical Resistivity of Natural-State Cores

Description: The following report covers measurements of electrical resistivity and dielectric constant that were made on parts of 27 cores from the Morrison formation in the Colorado Plateau uranium province as part of a program to obtain basic data on the physical properties of the rock in and near uranium-mineralized zones.

Distribution of Elements in the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation in the Jo Dandy Area, Montrose County, Colorado

Description: The following report covers a chemical study that was made of the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation of Jurassic age in the Jo Dandy area, Montrose County, Colorado in 1954. The chemical study was made to investigate the distribution of elements in the host rocks with emphasis on the pattern of variation as related to the position of known ore bodies, and to determine average concentrations of some of the elements in the major rock types.

Electrical Properties of Sandstones of the Morrison Formation

Description: The following report covers the study of electrical properties of the Morrison formation in the Uravan mineral belt of the Colorado Plateau to determine if there are anomalous variations in these properties in and near zones of uranium-vanadium minerals which might serve as a target for geophysical prospecting.
