Alternating Current and Square-Wave Polarography

Description: A exploratory study was made of a polarographic technique in which an alternating sine or square-wave potential is superimposed upon the applied d.c. potential of the polarographic scan. Recording of the a.c. component of the polarographic current results in derivative-type waves. It was shown that the technique yields greater sensitivity and greater selectivity than normal polarographic technique.

Altitude Acceleration Investigation of the RA-14 Avon Turbojet Engine

Description: As a part of this investigation, the acceleration characteristics of the engine, using the standard engine fuel-control system, were obtained for conditions simulating flight at altitudes of 35,000 and 50,000 feet with a flight Mach number of 0.4. Analysis of an automatic control to prevent rolling divergence

These studies have considered the effect of artificial changes in certain stability derivatives on the rolling divergence, and have shown that increased damping in pitch may be quite effective in reducing the divergent tendency. Analysis of Limitations Imposed on One-Spool Turboprop-Engine Designs by Compressors and Turbines at Flight Mach Numbers of 0.06, and 0.8

Description: Turbine centrifugal stress is a limiting factor for all flight conditions studied. This stress is more severe for sea-level operations than for subsonic flight at the tropopause. Turbines designed for a stress of 30,000 psi are capable of driving a light, compact, high-spedd compressor but only at high values of specific fuel consumption. An increase in turbine-inlet temperature is accompanied by an increase in turbine centrifugal stress.
