The pressure distribution over a long elliptical wing tip on a biplane in flight

Description: This note presents the results of flight pressure-distribution tests on the right upper wing panel of a Douglas M-3 airplane equipped with an elliptical tip of length equal to the wing chord. The results are given in such form that the load distribution for any normal-force coefficient within the usual range encountered in flight may easily be determined.

A Sound Pressure-Level Meter Without Amplification

Description: "The N.A.C.A. has developed a simple pressure-level meter for the measurement of sound-pressure levels above 70 db. The instrument employs a carbon microphone but has no amplification. The source of power is five flashlight batteries. Measurements may be made up to the threshold of feeling with an accuracy of plus or minus 2 db; band analysis of complex spectra may be made if desired" (p. 1).

Static Thrust Analysis of the Lifting Airscrew

Description: "This report presents the results of a combined theoretical and experimental investigation conducted at the Georgia School of Technology on the static thrust of the lifting air screw of the type used in modern autogiros and helicopters. The Wave Suppressors Used in the N.A.C.A. Tank

Description: "So long a time was required for the disturbed water to become quiet after a model had been towed down the N.A.C.A. tank, that only 12 to 18 runs a day could be made. In order to shorten the time lost in waiting between runs, several different methods of suppressing the waves were tried. The most effective form of wave suppressor developed consists of wooden frames covered with fine copper screening and secured horizontally just beneath the surface of the water at the sides of the tank" (p. 1).
