Analytical studies of the estimation of beryllium oxide in beryllium metal

Description: From abstract: The estimation of beryllium oxide in beryllium metal depending on the differential solubilities of the two material in dilute hydrochloric acid is presented. The results compare favorably with the present beryllium chloride volatilization procedure. Alternate methods are described, and the limitations and possible errors are discussed.

Approximate Calculation of Turbulent Boundary-Layer Development in Compressible Flow

Description: Note presenting numerical solutions of quantities appearing in the Karman momentum equation for the development of a turbulent boundary layer in plane and in radial compressible flows along thermally insulted surfaces in tabular form for a rnage of Mach numbers from 0.100 to 10. Through use of the tables, approximate calculation of boundary-layer growth is reduced to routine arithmetic computation.

Calculation of the lateral control of swept and unswept flexible wings of arbitrary stiffness

Description: A method similar to that of NACA rep. 1000 is presented for calculating the effectiveness and the reversal speed of lateral-control devices on swept and unswept wings of arbitrary stiffness. Comparisons of the Effectiveness and Hinge Moments of All-Movable Delta and Flap-Type Controls on Various Wings

Description: A comparative evaluation was made for all-movable delta and flap-type controls on several wing plan forms. Comparison of these experimental results from various test facilities shows the effectiveness on various wing plan forms and an evaluation of hinge-moment characteristics of all-movable delta controls, swept trailing-edge flap, and straight trailing-edge flap-type controls.

Design and performance of an experimental axial-discharge mixed-flow compressor 3: over-all performance of impeller and supersonic-diffuser combination

Description: Report presenting an investigation of an axial-discharge impeller in combination with a 16-vaned supersonic diffuser cascade over a range of flow conditions at equivalent tip speeds varying from 800 to 1600 feet per second. Results regarding the overall performance of the combination, starting of diffuser cascade, use of flow bleedoff to aid starting, radial distribution of flow angle, flow characteristics within diffuser, and efficiency of diffuser cascade are provided.

The Design of Variable Mach Number Asymmetric Super-Sonic Nozzles by Two Procedures Employing Inclined and Curved Sonic Lines

Description: "Two theoretical procedures are developed for designing asymmetric supersonic nozzles for which the calculated exit flow is nearly uniform over a range of Mach numbers. One procedure is applicable at Mach numbers less than approximately 3. This approach yields, without iteration, a nozzle for which the calculated exit flow is uniform at two Mach numbers and, with proper design, is nearly uniform at Mach numbers between, slightly above, and slightly below these two" (p. 1).

The effect of thickness ratio on section thrust distribution as determined from a study of wake surveys of the NACA 4-(0)(03)-045 and 4-(0)(08)-045 two-blade propellers up to forward Mach numbers of 0.925

Description: Report presenting testing of two two-blade propellers in the 8-foot high-speed tunnel for a range of blade angles and Mach numbers.
