Aerodynamic characteristics at subsonic and transonic speeds of a 42.7 degree sweptback wing model having an aileron with finite trailing-edge thickness

Description: Report presenting an investigation at subsonic and transonic speeds in the high-speed 7- by 10-foot tunnel to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of a 42.7 degree sweptback wing with a 20-percent-chord and 50-percent-span outboard aileron. The investigation was performed in transonic flow over a bump on the tunnel floor and in subsonic flow on one of the tunnel side walls.

Cyclic Engine Test of Cast Vitallium Turbine Buckets 2

Description: Memorandum presenting an investigation conducted to provide data that may be used to correlate the engine service performance of cast Vitallium turbine buckets with metallurgical properties. Data were obtained from four turbine wheels of Timken alloy with cast Vitallium buckets. Examination of 12 broken buckets indicated that 8 of the failures were probably caused by fatigue and 4 by impact with pieces of other broken buckets.

High-Speed Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Model Tail Plane with Modified NACA 65-010 Sections and 0 Degree and 45 Degrees Sweepback

Description: Memorandum presenting wind-tunnel tests that have been made to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of a model tail plane with modified NACA 65-010 sections and a tapered plan form. Results were obtained with the model tail plane unswept and swept back. The data show the lift, drag, pitching-moment, and hinge-moment coefficient variation with angle of attack and flap deflection at various Mach numbers.

On the flow of a compressible fluid by the hodograph method 1: unification and extension of present-day results

Description: From Summary: "Elementary basic solutions of the equations of motion of a compressible fluid in the hodograph variables are developed and used to provide a basis for comparison, in the form of velocity correction formulas, of corresponding compressible and incompressible flows. The known approximate results of Chaplygin, Von Karman and Tsien, Temple and Yarwood, and Prandtl and Glauert are unified by means of the analysis of the present paper. Two new types of approximations, obtained from the … more

Present status of research on boundary-layer control

Description: Report presenting a survey of the present status of research on boundary-layer control and its possible applications in aeronautics. The applications considered include reduction of profile drag by the elimination of turbulent separation, increase of the maximum lift coefficient through control of separation, use of suction and blowing slots near the trailing edge of the airfoil as a means of lateral control, use of boundary-layer control as a means of increasing the efficiency of diffusers and… more

Safety for the Household

Description: Introduction: The purpose of this circular is (a) to emphasize the seriousness of certain risks to life and property frequently occurring in or about the home, (b) to give simple methods of care and caution against such hazards, and (c) to stimulate interest in public measures directed toward safety for household and community.
