Corrosion of Austenitic Stainless Steels in MJ-4 Raw Streams

Description: Introduction: "A laboratory investigation of the relative corrosion resistance of several austenitic stainless steels to the RAW stream of the Tributyl Phosphate Waste Metal Recovery Process was made during the first quarter of 1950. The results of this investigation are reported herein; all original data are recorded in laboratory notebook HW-3282-T."

Evaluation of The Texas Company Airborne Radioactivity Survey at Blanding, Utah

Description: Purpose and scope: The purpose of this report is to present an analysis and evaluation of the airborne radioactivity survey of the Blanding, Utah district conducted by The Texas Company on behalf of the Atomic energy Commission. Within the scope of the report, only the results of the airborne survey and the data used in its evaluation are presented. No attempt is made to discuss the details of the survey or of the drilling program conducted in the area. A separate report by P. 1. Melanoon, on t… more

Pb-Sn Alloy Replacements for UO2 Density Standards

Description: A correlation between the optical densities if the Pb-Sn alloy system and UO2 with respect to Co^60 gamma radiation has been determined. This enables one to fabricate density standards of whatever geometry may be desired for one in the gamma absorptiometer by simply casting a Pb-Sn alloy of the proper composition to correspond to the density required.

Preliminary Report on pH Control by Ion Exchange in High pH Systems

Description: The primary purpose of a cleanup system in a recirculating water loop is to maintain the best possible water quality conditions. This is normally accomplished by continuously purifying all or a portion of the coolant. A secondary objective of the cleanup system is to help maintain the system pH at a constant value. A system that will satisfactorily accomplish both of these objectives is at times difficult to obtain. Generally the pH control characteristics are sacrificed in favor of the more im… more

The [Sigma/Alpha] Branching Ratio Of [Y*1]

Description: Recently a T=1 resonance in the [Alpha w] system called [Y*1] has been observed with a mass of 1385 Mev. Two types of resonances have been predicted that might relate this observation to other elementary-particle interactions: (1) P 3/2 resonances in the Alpha w and Sigma w systems predicted by global symmetry corresponding to the (3/2, 3/2) resonance of the wN system, (2) a spin-1/2 Y-w resonance resulting from a bound state in the KN system. The position and width of the observed [Y*1] resona… more

Studies on the Experimental Pathology and Biochemistry of the Pulmonary Granulomatosis of Beryllium Workers. Section II, Consolidated Progress Report. Supplement: a Review of the Physical Chemistry of Beryllium

Description: The status of research is reviewed in a study of pulmonary granulomatosis in beryllium workers. Equipment for use in dust exposure studies is described. Preliminary results are reported from studies on the tissue distribution and pathological effects of beryllium dust in rats; the physical chemistry of solutions of beryllium salts; the effects of beryllium on enzyme systems, and the effects of ascorbic acid on beryllium excretion.
