Social Security Provisions in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

Electricity Restructuring and Tax-Exempt Bonds: Economic Analysis of Legislative Proposals

Description: Tax-exempt bonds reduce public power's interest cost on debt and enable it to lower the price of electricity. This subsidy makes taxpayers better off only if the private market fails to provide the correct amount of electricity. The Financial Outlook for Social Security and Medicare

Description: The 2001 annual reports of the board of trustees of the Social Security and Medicare trust funds were released on March 19, 2001. Both programs have benefitted from an improved economic outlook in the near term, but both continue to have projected long-range problems. Insolvency for the Disability Insurance (DI) part of Social Security is projected to occur in 2026, and for the retirement and survivors part, in 2040.
