It only takes one hour
to give the gift of Life ...
15 minutes spent filling out forms
15 minuts waiting in line
15 minutes giving blood
15 minutes resting afterward
Both semesters NTSU held blood
drives sponsored by Wadley Research
Institute and Blood Bank and the Gift
of Life Committee. Dr. J. B. Spalding
was named the faculty sponsor of the
Committee for 83-84 after former
faculty sponsor Dr. David Fitch
retired. Stuart Strickland, a Plano
Junior, served as student chairman for
the Committee.
Employees of Wadley took the
blood assisted by members of 10 NT
organizations: Angel Flight, Arnold
Air Society, Beta Beta Beta, Delta
Sigma Pi, Dormitory Council, In-
trafraternity Council, Pan Hellenic
Association, Phi Chi Theta, Talons,
and University Program Council.
The members of these organiza-
tions helped by scheduling appoint-ments to give blood, holding the
hands of people giving blood and
distributing juice and cookies after-
wards to replenish donors' systems.
Donated blood went to 52 hospitals
around the North Texas area, the
Texas Chapter of National
Hemophilia Foundation, and the NT
Chapter of the Leukemia Society. It is
also used for the needs of NT
students, staff, faculty, and their
families.
About 10 percent of the students,
and 5 percent of the faculty donated
blood each semester. This year, for
the first time, people weighing be-
tween 95-100 pounds were allowed
the opportunity to give blood. They
could donate a half-pint, called
pediatric pint, used for children.
Those who donated blood and
those who were deferred received
balloons and "Kiss Me I Gave Blood"
stickers.Freshman Steve Puhalovich holds donor
