"Madwoman" Leads
To Paris Sewers
i
Jean Giraudoux's satire on every-
thing in general and money in par-
ticular, "The Madwoman of Chail-
lot," gave the University Players a
good workout in the forms of
comedy.
Janice Messick, performing the
title role of Countess Aurelia who
voices Giraudoux's panaceas for the
corruption visited on the world by
evil (capitalism, high society and
the press). She speaks her concern
and solution in madcap manner and
ends the play happily by directing
a horde of offenders to a watery
grave in the Paris sewers.
Venting the author's attack on
the "Golden Calf" during the fam-
ous trial scene was Larry Pine, the
Ragpicker. Dr. E. Robert Black
directed the play.
