TORONTO — Fears that Iraqi captors might
harm a Canadian hostage if they knew he was
gay forced his partner to remain silent as loved
ones called for an end to the ordeal, a director
from the freed hostage's aid group said Monday

Two gay Dallas men were found murdered
over a two-day period in early March, raising the
number of unsolved murders of Dallas-Fort
Worth gay men to six.
Police officers responding to a 911 hang-up
call at about 4 a.m. on March 4 found Gary Dean
Hashaway, 43, dead in his Lake Highlands apart-
ment in the 8900 block of Vantagepoint Drive:
The medical examiner ruled he died by strangu-
lation.
Police found the front door ajar, and there was
no sign of forced entry, according to the police
report. Several pieces of valuable electronic
equipment and bottles of medication had not
been taken.

Methodist University pursing a master's degree
