President John J. Kamerick made this prediction
at winter commencement at .which 810 degrees were
awarded, including 646 bachelor's, 146 master's and
18 doctor's, •
A recent Interuniversity Council (IUC) report notes
that NTSl<J awarded almost half the graduate degrees
granted by the 10 IUC member schools in the North
Texas area in the past five years.

grees and 44 per cent of the 482 doctors degrees. The
closest rival is East Texas State University which
awarded 53 doctor's and 633 master's degrees in 1969.
North Texas granted its first doctor's degree in 1953
and has since awarded 362, mostly doctor of education
degrees. (North Texas granted its first bachelor's degree
in 1919.)
The university now offers three doctoral degrees—the
Ph.D. in 12 areas, the Ed.D. in six«areas and the doctor
of musical arts- In addition, there are 10 master's de-
grees offered in 68 areas of concentration.

Dental College, Texas Wesleyan College and the Un-

University of Dallas becamc members last February.
"Last year," said Dr. Robert B. Toulouse, dean of
the Graduate School, "we thought we were being
optimistic when we predicted 60 to 65 doctoral grad-
uates for 1969—we graduated 81." <1
