Around the adventures of Lo- ^fellow has woven
several nature legends of.Korth America* Probably the most
noted of these legends is the Myth of the Four Winds* This
myth was developed among the native races of America with a
rejMe and vigour and beauty scarcely rivaled elsewhere in
the mythology of the world. Ran naturally divided nie horizon

branch of Indian folklore are rendered in "The Song of Hiawatha."I

in connection with the birth of the hero; but the poet also
includes the legends of the hast Wind, the South Wind, and the
North Mind,
WabuB, who is given the hast Wind by his father, is young
