the quatrefoll, but later, in the eighteenth century, the
"C" and "S" scrolls were employed.
Miscellaneous Iron Objects
An abundance of miscellaneous iron objects from
the Colonial Period is to be found within the city of
Guanajuato.
Weather vanes. — Fantastic weather vanes were
placed on the ball towers of
churches (Figure 47).
Iron railings. -- Iron
railings served many purposes.
They were used around ornate
fountains in the plazas and
in parks and to enclose graves
in the cemetery (Figure 48).
Cast-iron benches. — Cast-
iron benches which go back to
the Colonial Period grace gar-
dens, plazas, parka and play-
grounds all over the city
