Jenss and Souther was 62.5 per cent. Wetzel states that the
grid reaches an agreement of ninety-four per cent with
clinical estimates except for the Bg group, nblch is only
fifty per cent. Twenty-six children selected by the grid
vcre in the Bg group. Judging from the difference in
clinical agreement for the two methods, and the variance
in the percentages selected from the larger studies, tne
would have expected the grid to classify more children as
needing medical attention in this study than did the Baldwin-
Wood Tables. However, Jenss and Souther suggest that the
difference in locality, nationality, and economic status of
children used to compile the Baldwin-Wood Tables, as well as
the Pryor Index, may be a partial cause of disagreement in
their study.
It was shown by Whitacre, 1939 that a group of Texas
children selected for study from San Antonio, Texas, public
schools were in general somewhat smaller than those children
whose measurements were used by Baldwin and Wood. 3-7 ftJs
say have been due to differences in economic strata, since
it was known that the children used to compile the Baldwin-
Wood Tables were from private or endowed schools. It has
been shown that children of more favorable economic environ-
ment average taller and heavier than those less favorably
