The Baldwin-Weed Tables give expected weight in terms
of age, sex, and height. A child's actual weight la then
compared to the expected weight and the difference is computed
as a percentage above or below the expected measurement. A
child whose percentage Is six per cent or more below the ex-
pected measurement is considered underweight.'*
Assessments were made with the Baldwin-Wood Tables for
each of the eighty-eight students included in this study.
Forty-four bo^s and forty-four girls comprised the group* the
&gea ranged from six to fifteen ye*r3 at the last birthday.
As shos-n in Table 1, students from the John A. Kooken
Elementary School, Arlington, *'ex a *ere rated in April,
1943. This group included seventeen eases, nine boys and
eight girls, from the six to seven y ara of age ran^e.
Eight of the nine boys, or 88.8 per cent, were classified as
underweight. Five of the eight girls, or 62.5 per cent, were
classified as underweight. A total of 76.46 per cent of the
seventeen children from this school were considered under-
weight, selected by this method.
Students from the Arlington High School, Arlington,
Texas, were rated in /pril, 1943. This group included thirty
students, thirteen boys and seventeen girls iron the thir-
teen to fifteen year old range. Six of the thirteen beys,
or 46.1 per cent, ana six of the girls, or 35.3 per cent of
