Dean F. Gamble, Chairman
What can I do for the Division? With all its
recent use, this question nearly has the sound of
a cliche but perhaps it is worth examining.
In this issue of Chemical Literature, the
purposes of the various committees of the Division
are presented. It is through these committees
that most of the functions and purposes of
the Division are implemented. While well -qualified
people are sought for each committee, they
can always profit by discussion with and ideas
contributed by interested Division members.
It is obvious that the Program Committee
cannot present interesting and stimulating pro -
grams unless good papers are available. Symposia
have a very important place in bringing
together material and stimulating discussion on
a limited topic. The more topics suggested to
the committee the less will be the chance that
important areas are missed. However, it is also
to be expected that the greater percentage of
novel work will be found in the volunteered
papers. The committee seldom has information
on who has good material to present and needs
urging to prepare it.
The officers each have their specified duties.
If you are aware of a problem which should be
given attention by one of the officers, we would
all appreciate your helpful suggestions. We may
not be aware that such a problem exists or that
it is being overlooked.
In addition to these direct approaches to the
Committees and Officers of the Division, there
are the pages of Chemical Literature in which to
express your thoughts. We invite your questions,
opinions, suggestions, etc.
The most direct way in which you can help
determine the future of the Division is by actively
participating in the nomination and election of
officers.
Only by active participation, by well-planned
and executed work, :and by good ideas clearly
expressed to the right person at the right time
can you influence the progress of the Division
toward what you consider to be its most worthy
goals.SPRING MEETING NOTES
