B. SMD Format Subcommittee/CSA
Trust report
Requests for contributions from these two organizations
were discussed at the 1990 Fall
meeting and rejected. The SMD Format Subcommittee
is not in need of additional funding
at this time. Wendy Warr reviewed the mission
and goals of the Chemical Structure Association
Trust, emphasizing its international
nature. The CSA Trust has launched a new
campaign to increase its endowment to
$250,000. A new program to be supported by
the expanded endowment is a full year student
fellowship for graduate research at Sheffield
University. Support for meeting
attendance by chemical information specialists
will be continued.
VIII. NEW BUSINESS
A. 1989 Annual Report Feedback
Bettijoyce noted that the Division's report received
positive feedback from the Annual Report
Review Subcommittee of the Divisional
Activities Committee. A number of exceptional
activities were noted, no problems were cited,
and the report itself was called "a model."B. Campaign for Chemistry
Bettijoyce conducted a phone/FAX poll of the
Executive Committee in order to respond to
a request for a contribution from the Division
to the ACS Campaign for Chemistry. After
considering everyone's opinions, she took an
average of the suggested amounts and authorized
$300 as CINF's contribution.
C. ACRL Liaison
Arleen Somerville suggested that a CINF liaison
with the Science and Technical Section
of the ACRL, the Association of College and
Research Libraries, would be of benefit to
both groups. A motion was made and approved
to establish such a relationship.D. Proposal for CINF/COMP Merger
The question of the differences between CINF
and COMP has been raised several times,
with the suggestion that the two Divisions
might consider a merger. CINF's membership
is 1400; COMP has about 2200 members. Only
235 people are members of both Divisions.Occasionally programming from one Division
may overlap with the interests of the other,
but better coordination of programming in the
future should help avoid conflicts. The members
present at the meeting saw little benefit
to CINF in a merger with COMP.
E. Planning Meeting
Topics mentioned for the Planning Meeting included
a membership recruitment and retention
plan, and better transition for committee
chairs. The planning meeting will be held on
Saturday, August 24, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:45 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
