MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
Dear Colleagues:
I would like to invite you all for breakfast in San Francisco, Saturday, September 9th at 7:30 am at the
San Francisco Convention Center. Immediately after the breakfast, you are also welcome to attend
and participate in our CINF Long-Range planning meeting that will be held in the same room. This is
your opportunity to voice your views on how your Division should evolve to accommodate and
leverage the changing world. This breakfast and meeting are open to all our members, prospects, and
anyone interested to contribute to shaping the future of chemical information. The long-range
planning meeting will be completed at 9:00 am, after which the CINF committee meetings will
start. You are also welcome to attend and participate in the CINF committees.
On Monday, September 11th, at 4:30 pm, we will hold the first CINF Open Meeting in many
years. This will be just before the CAS and Publications Open meeting (will be in the same room) and
will provide an environment for chemical information enthusiasts to raise their voices on topics of
interest. Would you like to nominate your favorite informatician for the next year's chair position?
As always we have an excellent technical program: 126 papers will be presented in 12 sessions,
parallel sessions on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. The first CIC-CINF Joint Symposium,
"Cyberinfrastructure in Chemistry, Information, and Education: New Emerging Technologies," is
organized in two half-day sessions on Sunday. Don't miss the SciMix Poster session. CINF will
have 22 posters, and three of them will be the recipients of CINF-FIZ CHEMIE Berlin Scientific
Excellence Scholarships. The Herman Skolnik Award Symposium,"From QSAR to Virtual
Screening," will provide 14 papers from distinguished scientists.
Social activities: Apart from our Welcoming Reception Sunday and Herman Skolnik Award
Reception Tuesday night, we will reenact "Harry's Party" Monday night. The locations will be
announced later. The CINF Luncheon (ticketed) will be Tuesday at noon.
Yes, San Francisco is the place to be in September. For the upcoming ACS National Meeting, we
have an excellent program for you and an opportunity to network with other scientists and chemical
information enthusiasts around the world.
I look forward to seeing you all in San Francisco.
