well was about 120 barrels of 31.4 API grav-
ity green oil. In 1930 oil was discovered in
the Embar (Phosphoria) limestone and Ten-
sleep sandstone at 5,300 to 5,412 feet in a well
in the NE1/4NE1/4 sec. 22. The initial daily
production of the well was 567 barrels of 24.30
API gravity black oil.
Oil was found in the Amsden formation in
March 1956 on completion of a well in the
center of the east half of lot 46. Initial pro-
duction was 230 barrels of 21.30 API gravity
oil and 85 barrels of water a day. The log of

this well shows the depth, in feet, to the forma-
tion top as follows: Frontier, 1,942; Mowry,
2,558; Thermopolis shale, 2,930; Muddy,
3,194; Cloverly, 3,310; Dakota, 3,420; Mor-
rison, 3,506; Sundance, 3,962; Gypsum
Spring, 4,316; Chugwater, 4,457; Dinwoody,
4,945; Phosphoria, 4,974; Tensleep, 5,046;
Amsden, 5,225; Madison, 5,385; Big Horn,
6,375; Gallatin, 6,806; Gros Ventre, 7,290;
and Precambrian, 7,683.
On October 1, 1956, there were 61 wells in
the field; 2 of these were Frontier gas wells
