back to the Sundance formation. The log of
the No. 4 Horne well shows the depth, in feet,
to the top of formations as follows: Base of
Shannon, 2,551; Niobrara, 4,008; Mowry,
5,001; Muddy, 5,410; Dakota, 5,511; First
Sundance, 5,988; and Tensleep, 7,228. An-
alyses of oil from the Muddy sand and gas
from the First Sundance sand are given on
page 439 and in table 8 (p. 289), respectively.
Four wells have been drilled in the field. Of
these, one was completed as a Muddy oil well,
one as a First Sundance oil well, and one as a
Sundance gas well; operations were suspended
on one well that tested gas in the Shannon and
First Sundance sands. Production for 1956
was 20,160 barrels of oil. Gas production for
1955 and 1956 was 340 million cubic feet. The
oil is hauled from the field by truck.
MEETEETSE
The Meeteetse oilfield is in sec. 28, T. 49 N.,
R. 99 W., Park County. The structure at
Meeteetse field is thought to be a faulted anti-
cline. It is in a valley or depression among
flat-topped shale hills. The Willwood forma-tion is exposed on the surface at an elevation
of 5,940 feet.
The discovery well, the No. 1 State, in the
SE1/4SE1/,NW1/4 sec. 28, was completed De-
cember 7, 1954. Initial daily production by
pumping was 110 barrels of 31 API gravity
oil from the Phosphoria lime at 11,234 to
11,278 feet. The log of the well shows the
depth, in feet, to the top of formations as
follows: Lance, 1,894; Meeteetse, 2,860;
Mesaverde, 4,060; Cody, 5,280; Frontier,
7,788; Mowry, 8,304; Thermopolis shale,
8,632; Muddy, 8,880; Cloverly, 9,080; Mor-
rison, 9,210; Sundance, 9,463; Gypsum Spring,
10,133; Chugwater, 10,190; Dinwoody, 11,145;
Phosphoria, 11,232; and Tensleep, 11,446.
Oil from the Phosphoria lime is analyzed on
page. 439. The one well in the field produced
9,003 barrels of oil in 1956 to bring the cumu-
lative production to 24,452 barrels at the end
of 1956. The oil is trucked from the field.
The Meeteetse unit, approved on October 6,
1954, contains 4,316 acres.
MEYER GULCH
The Meyer Gulch oilfield (fig. 51, p. 81)
is in sec. 29, T. 47 N., R. 90 W., Washakie
County and south of the Cottonwood Creek
field. Maps of the area show the structure to
be monoclinal and dipping southwest. Oil and
gas have accumulated in stratigraphic traps
formed by faces changes of dolomite to red
shale and anhydrite in the Phosphoria forma-
tion. The Fort Union and Lance formations
are exposed in the area at an elevation of 4,750
feet.
The discovery well, the No. 1 Gov't.-Chittim,
in the C SW1/4SW1/4 sec. 29, was completed
March 10, 1955. Initial production by pump-
ing was 100 barrels of 23.8 API gravity oil
a day from the Phosphoria lime at 8,800 to
8,832 feet. The log of the well shows the
depth, in feet, to the top of formations as fol-
lows: Cody, 2,416; Frontier, 5,380; Second
Frontier sand, 5,734; Third Frontier sand,
6,036; Mowry, 6,307; Thermopolis, 6,630;
Muddy, 6,820; Cloverly, 7,064; Dakota sand,
7,118; Morrison, 7,270; Sundance, 7,497; Gyp-
sum Spring, 7,750; Chugwater, 7,870; Alcova,
8,010; Dinwoody, 8,720; Phosphoria, 8,770;
and Tensleep, 9,062. Analysis of oil from the
Phosphoria lime is shown on page 440. A sec-
ond well drilled in the C SWlAlNWt1/ sec. 29
was abandoned as a failure.
In June 1956 the well was producing 45 bar-
rels of oil and no water daily. Oil produced
at the field amounted to 13,735 barrels in 1955
and 12,469 barrels in 1956. The oil from the
field was hauled by truck in June 1956.176
