Conclusions
In view of these data, it seems reasonable to make the
following. ponc1u sions:
1, The average loss ratio for the supervisory area
studied has been 66.44 per cent of the premiums and assess-
aments paid by the schools for the past five years. Of the
62,016.20 dollars paid to the various companies, 40,581.53
Dollars has been returned for losses incurred while the
remaining 21,434,87 dollars was retained by the companies,
2. The local mutual companies are fatr more economical
than the stock companies for insurance purposes. The
average rate charged by stock companies being one dollar and
fifteen cents for fire only; whereas the average rate charged
by mutual eampates was only one dollar and two cents which
included windatorm insurance for a major portion of the
schools involve .
3, The mutual companies offer a mare practteal plan of
inauranee because: (a) They offer the same amount of pro-
teotion at a cheaper rate than the stock companies. (b) Since
they are non-profit making in purpose, the benefit of any
profit will be apportioned among all the participating89
