Number and Classification of Students Transperted
Although the writer was unable to obtain complete enroll-
ment figures for all of the coSmon school districts of the ten
counties, he did secure these data for the independent dis-
tricts. Table 53 shows interesting comparisons between the
total enrollment of students in the independent districts pro-
riding transportation facilities and the number in each county
actually transported to and from sohool by bus. Wichita County
had the largest total enrollment by far, and, even though more
students were transported by bus in this county than in any
other, the percentage of total enrollment transported by bus
was much lower than that for any other county. This seeming
anomaly may be explained by the fact that in Wichita alls, by
far the largest school system in the ten-county district, com-
paratively few of the students were conveyed to and from
school by bus. Montage was the only ether county in which as
many as 1,000 students took advantage of transportation facili-
ties. With the exception of Wichita County, where only 7.8 per
oent of the total enrollment in independent sohbols was trane-
ported by bus, the per cent transported ranged from 20.4 in
Young County to 68.6 in Wilbarger County. Throughout the inde-
pendent districts, an average of 22.7 per cent of all students
