erating all buses amounting to $27,688.64 for the school year.

third in point of total expenditure for transportation, re-
oeived more money from the state than did ontague County.
When the amount of state aid is reduced to a percentage, based
upon the total cost of operating all buses, it is seen that Mlon-
tague County ranked seventh. Hence the county expending the
largest sum for transportation, or the one receiving the most
assistance from the state, dces not necessarily have the largest
per cent of the total cost of transportation facilities sup-
plied by the state. The per cent of state aid granted, when
computed in terms of the total cost of transportation, ranged
from 5.8 for Wlbarger County to S6.4 for Baylor County.
Throughout the ten counties, the state supplied, on an average,
19.0 per cent of the amount of money required to operate all
transportation facilities.
In the common school districts, asshown in Table 52, Wil-
barger County received the largest grant of state aid for
transportation, $12,076.50. Likewise, in this county the per
cent of total operating costs supplied by state aid was bigh-
est, equaling 100.4, or more than was actually expended. This
anomaly may be explained by the practice of certain economies
in the operation of the transportation system, but a more
tenable explanation is that the county superintendent may bare
