Swimming
Hall Street Swimming Pool (Municipal). Swimming pool and bathhouse. Open
6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily from June 1 to September 1.
YMCA (Moorland Branch). Swimming classes, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fri-
days. Members and their guests.
YWCA (Maria Morgan). Uses facilities of the YMCA swimming pool on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays 8 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. Facilities are avail-
able to nonmembers.
Tennis
Tennis is played in the various Negro parks, with elimination held at Hall Street
Negro Park annually under the supervision of the Park Department.
Track and Field Meets
Track and Field Meets are held annually at the Booker T. Washington High School
and Lincoln High School.
Athletic Meets
Winning teams in park and community center athletic competitions engage in an-
nual finals.
Amateur Sports Events
Baseball is played in season Saturdays and Sundays by a number of amateur teams
in the following places: Kiest Park, Lake Cliff Park, Randall Park, Reverchon Park,
and Tenison Park. High school and other amateur teams of the city play on these
diamonds. There are two junior baseball leagues in the city divided into 24 teams
and composed of boys from 15 to 17, playing regulation baseball.
League Softball is played every night in season, 8 and 9 o'clock, at the Railton
Softball Park, in Fair Park, bet. Fair Park Auditorium and the swimming pool.
There are 60 teams that use this field and in a season attract as high as three-
quarters of a million people. Softball is played on 87 other diamonds located in the
various city parks. Forty-eight softball teams in the Church League play softball at
Lion Field, on the west side of Industrial Blvd., two miles north of the triple under-
pass. This plant was acquired early in 1939 by the Lions Club of Dallas for use of the
church players.
Basketball games, by Southern Methodist University (Mustangs) in Southwest
Conference schedule, high schools and private preparatory schools. Numerous
amateur men's and women's leagues play in the Automobile Building at Fair Park.
YMCA has four leagues, three playing in the Central YMCA, one on a municipal
court.
Bowling Tournaments are held semiannually at Hap Morse Bowling Alley, 1515
Young St., with outstanding amateurs competing.
Boxing contests are staged under the auspices of the Southwestern Amateur
Athletic Union, at the Dallas Athletic Club, Liberty Bank Bldg., St. Paul and Elm25
