A&M Chemistry Research
Texas A.&M. University's chemistry
research program has been ranked sixth
in the nation, based on 1977 figures for
dollars expended on research and devel-
opment, according to the National Science
Foundation.
Chemistry studies here totaled $3,894,-
000 that and 1978 figures should reflect
a significant increase.
Texas A.&M. was one of only nine
institutions to exceed $3 million in 1977
and led all other research centers in the
South and Southwest.
Welch Foundation Lecture
The 1979-80 Welch Foundation Lecture
was presented by Dr. Joseph J. Katz,
a senior scientist at Argonne National
Laboratory on Wednesday, October 24.
His lecture subject: "Biomimetic Ap-
proaches to Solar Energy Utilization."
Dr. Katz is the American Editor of
the Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear
Chemistry and Edritor-in Chief of In-
organic and Nuclear Chemistry Letters.SOUTHWEST RETORT
