Dr. Barbara Stein
Martin has been named
to the Advisory Board
of the Laura Bush
Foundation for
American Libraries.
The private foundation,
Dr. Barbara Stein c
established in July 2001,
focuses on helping to bring books to inner city
and rural school libraries. The ten member
advisory board consists of a diverse group of
ten professionals from throughout the country.
The Advisory Board held its first meeting
following the White House Conference on
School Libraries, held June 4, 2002. The after-
noon prior to the White House Conference,
the First Lady entertained the Advisory BoardAnna Harriet Heyer, who
started the UNT music library
and was its director from 1940
until 1965, and assistant pro- Anna
fessor of library services
throughout most of those years, died in Fort
Worth, August 12, 2002, at age 92. She was
the first full-time music librarian in Texas and
one of the first to teach a course in music
librarianship in any library school. When she
left in 1965 to join the library staff at Texas
Christian University as consultant on music

The Advisory Board's
first assignment is to draft guidelines for mak-
ing grants to prospective school librarians from
low-income areas. It is expected that the grants
will amount to around $5,000, depending on
how much money is raised. The Foundation
has raised over $5 million to date. The guide-
lines will be finalized when the Advisory Board
meets on October 11, the day before the

published by UNT in 1955, and three edi-
tions of her music bibliography, Historical Sets,
Collected Editions and Monuments of Music: A

American Library Association in 1957, 1969,
and 1980. She received many awards and was
honored with an emeritus librarian status
